Chapter Seven
SangWalking into the house, i drop my bag and keys on the small table by the door before going straight up the stairs to my bedroom. I need to cook myself some food, but I want a shower first, to wash away the scent of hospital bleach and anti bacterial spray.
In my room, I strip out of my clothes and slip on my robe. I put my phone into the docking station and turn it on, deciding to listen to one of Nan's favourite songs; Winter by Vivaldi. Lucky for me, I'm into all types of music. Nan likes classical, while my grandad's tastes in music varied from Reggae, to Motown, and some hip hop. I turn it up so I can hear it from the bathroom.
After Owen Blackbourne left, me and Nan spent the rest of the day in her room. In between reading her books she fell asleep for cat naps, and I worked on my iPad, checking emails, doing a couple of lesson plans for the next few weeks, and I even did some reading myself.
Nan told me that Mrs Francis had been to see her while I was seeing the babies with Sean. I'm glad that so many people are visiting her. I'm just not sure how to feel about Academy members coming to see her. I understand that they're this huge family with smaller ones in their own circles, but I'm the granddaughter no one knew the identity of and slowly, my identity is being revealed.
I told Nan that I wouldn't be in to see her tomorrow until noon as I want to go to the elementary school I work at and collect all my notes and plans from Monday. With Nan coming home, I also want to see if I can have next week off too. I'd like to spend a few days with her in our comfort zone.
Sighing, I go into the bathroom, making sure the towel heater is on to warm my towels for me. Going over to the shower, I reach in and turn the tap on only to jump back when water starts spraying from the pipes on the wall. It's cold and I let out a shocked squeak. "Oh my God!"
I flinch when it catches me in the face. I'm trying to turn the tap off, but it's stuck. "No. No. No. C'mon." I grunt, my hand hurting with the pressure I'm putting on the tap, only for it not to budge.
The floor is soaked, I'm soaked, and now I'm pissed. What the hell am I supposed to do? I don't know anyone that could come and fix this for me—at least, no one that could come right now. I can't have water spraying all over the bathroom all night.
I run from the bathroom, dripping wet, and into my bedroom. I pick up my phone and go through my contacts, seeing who I can call. North's, Luke's and Sean's numbers get my attention and I ring North first, only he doesn't answer. "C'mon, North. Answer the phone."
I tried again only to get his voicemail. I hang up and press Sean's number, but he too doesn't answer and I growl in frustration. "Why do people have phones if they don't answer them?" I mutter. I go back to Luke's number and press call.
It rings and rings and just as I'm about to give up, a cheerful voice comes down the line. "Well, if it isn't my favourite cupcake. What can I do for you?"
"I need some help. The pipe is spraying water everywhere, the bathroom is flooding, I'm soaking wet, and I have no idea what I'm doing. Please tell me you can help me, please." I plead in a rush. He laughs down the phone. "It's not funny, Luke," I cry. "I don't know what to do."
"Calm down, Cupcake. I know just the guy. We'll be there soon. What's your address?" I rattle off my address so fast I'm surprised he heard me.
