Chapter Ten
SangAfter Luke drops me back at mine and Nan's house, I drop my stuff off inside before getting into my car and heading for Ashley Waters Elementary school. I'm only going to check in on my class and see if Lorraine can allow me to have next week off work too. I feel bad, more so because I've only been there for a few weeks.
As I drive towards the school, my thoughts go to the guys and I smile. They're a great bunch to be around and I like them. They're funny, kind and considerate. And attractive, can't forget that one.
The only one that seems to be...out of place within this group is Owen Blackbourne. The suits, the ties, those calculating grey eyes. I was so surprised to see him when I had come back downstairs after getting my bag, that I didn't know how to react.
And the thought of spending Saturday with them all, including Owen, kind of makes me nervous. Now, in all honesty, I'm not sure what I agreed to. Maybe I could pull out? I mean, Nan is in hospital, and sure, maybe I shouldn't not do things because she is, but I've never been a sociable person before.
But yet, they're bringing something out of me I didn't even know existed.
Shaking my head, I pull into the school's parking lot for staff and park my car before getting out and making my way inside. I'm certainly not dressed to do any teaching today, but I don't plan on hanging around for too long.
I pull open the doors to the main office and Gillian, the receptionist, lifts her head. Gillian is a lady in her late forties with greying hair and laugh lines. She also has an incredible pair of navy blue eyes that stand out against her pale skin. "Sang, what a surprise."
"Hi, Gillian. Is Lorraine about?" I ask, slipping my hands into the pockets of my shorts.
"She sure is. She's in her office. Go ahead, dear." She waves a hand towards a set of doors that lead down to the staff room and Lorraine's office. I offer her a smile of thanks before heading that way.
Reaching Lorraine's door, I rap my knuckles against it and wait. A few moments later the door is pulled open and Lorraine is standing there wearing a black dress with a floral print on it, black tights and shoes with a slight heel on them. "Sang, I wasn't expecting you."
"Sorry, I just wanted to check in and ask you something," I tell her, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"Sure, sweetheart, come in." Lorraine holds the door open for me and I step past the thirty four year old woman. Lorraine has chocolate brown hair she always keeps in a bob, sun kissed skin and hazel eyes that are framed with a pair of square framed glasses. She closes the door behind me. "How is your grandmother?" Lorraine asks, rounding her desk and taking a seat.
I sit down in one of the chairs in front of her, putting my bag on the floor at my feet. "She's doing well. She won't be home until next week though. That's why I'm here."
Lorraine smiles. "Would you like next week off, too?"
I nod my head yes. "I'm sorry, Lorraine. I feel terrible, but I need to sort Nan out before I can come back. She won't like it, the stubborn woman, but I'm going to get an in-home nurse to spend days with her while I'm here and that could take me a few days."
"Honestly, Sang, take all the time you need," Lorraine offers with a smile. "Family is important and comes before work. I'm sure I can get Sarah to cover for you while you're gone."
