The rest of the dinner wasn't anything interesting at all. Out of politeness Olivia waited until the man finished his food as well. After that, they said their goodbyes, and the man headed up to his room.
Olivia hadn't yet rented one. She returned to the reception and was greeted by the same man as earlier that evening. A room was quickly booked without any problems.
Right when she was about to leave the reception, Olivia ran into another familiar face: the woman from that afternoon. Since she had to go up to the same floor with the towels in her arms, they decided to walk together.
'We can always use more people,' Wendy said.
'Well, maybe you'll see me again in a couple of weeks then,' Olivia answered.
'We would love to have. The more the merrier, right?'
'For sure.'
'Besides, you don't have to worry about getting hired or not. You clearly have lots of experience.'
Wendy, still holding her towels, stopped walking. Olivia looked at her with a confused look.
'Room 13,' Wendy said. 'Isn't that yours?'
Olivia looked at the key in her hands. A label marked it: 3.13.
'You're right.'
'Good thing I remembered it, or you would have had to walk back from the end of the hall,' Wendy smiled. 'And don't worry. I cleaned this room myself before dinner. It's spotless.'
Olivia raised her eyebrows.
'Alright, alright,' she said. 'Dedicated to your job I see.'
'Of course. Have a good evening. I'll see you tomorrow at breakfast.'
'You too. I'll let you know if I find any dust particles.'
'Only tell me though, not my boss,' Wendy laughed.
'Sure,' Olivia smiled.
Wendy turned around and walked further down the hall. Olivia unlocked the door of room 13, and walked in. She locked it behind her.
The room was spacious. A desk stood against the wall on her left. Next to it was another door possibly leading to a bathroom. Next to that door stood a closet followed by a bed and a lamp on a nightstand. The entire right wall was empty except for a couch. On the floor laid a rug. On the opposite wall was a small window.
Olivia put her bag down on the desk and sat down on the chair. Looking around the room, as well as having had a glimpse of the rest of the inn, she wouldn't mind working there. Plus, the staff she has talked to seemed nice.
Not my priority she reminded herself. 1, mom. 2, work. Let's get a good night of sleep.
It took more effort than predicted to get up again. She had been on her feet the entire day, and definitely felt that in her legs as well. Luckily, she found the necessary motivation. Four steps later she laid on the bed with her clothes still on.
Olivia moved herself to the edge of the bed closest to the small window. She closed the curtains and reached to turn of the lamp on the nightstand. When she shifted closer, she noticed something gleaming behind it. She reached and picked up a watch.
Tsk, tsk, tsk... Wasn't the room spotless, Wendy?
She turned the watch over to inspect it. It was engraved on the back.
To my littlest one.
It was a beautiful watch, and in good condition too. A well-off renter must have left it, and Wendy didn't notice it. Olivia wasn't sure what to do with it. Take it or leave it?
The money I would get from selling it, might come in handy. But what if the owner comes back to the inn to look for it? It's not like they'll know I took it, but still...
Olivia decided to put it back on the nightstand. She turned the light off and tried to go to sleep.
I'll decide with a clearer head tomorrow.
