Piper: Well well, Nicky Valentine walks into MY office for a change
Nick: What can I say, Piper? You, me, and bad luck seem to run together like acid rain down an old sewer
Piper: You including your client here in that analogy?
Nathan: Something like that
Piper: So, you two are finally letting me in on this little case of yours. But I'll only help you on one condition
Nathan: What's that?
Piper: You still owe me and interview. Let me interview you, and we'll call it even
Nathan: Deal
Piper: So, how you holding up, blue?
Nathan: Blue?
Piper: Cause you're a vault dweller?
Nathan: What the-? How did you-?
Piper: I know, you're not wearing the jumpsuit. But that pip boy and the fish out of water look? Dead giveaways. Anyway, you came from a vault. How was your time on the inside?
Nathan: My family and I were cryogenically frozen. I didn't spend much time in the vault
Piper: Wait, they boxed you up in a fridge? The whole time? Are you saying you were alive before the war? You're over 200 years old?!
Nathan: Behold. I am immortal
Piper: You kind of are, aren't you? Oh my god... The man out of time! That would make a perfect headline! Looking good for your age
Nathan: Hey, technically I'm not even out of my 30s
Piper: You've seen the commonwealth. How does it compare to your old life?
Nathan: It's... different to say the least. But it's fun to destroy things
Piper: If that's the official quote, then ok. Alright, now for the million cap question. You came here looking for someone. Who was it?
Nathan: My son Shaun. Last I saw him, he was less than a year old
Piper: A parent after a missing child. As heartbreaking of a story as ever. Not even a baby is safe from them. And people wonder why I can't just look the other way. For the last part of the interview, I want you to make a statement to diamond city directly. The threat of kidnapping is all but ignored in the commonwealth. Everyone wants to pretend it doesn't happen. What would you say to someone out there who might have lost a loved one?
Nathan: Just take it one day at a time. It's all anyone can do. Don't lose hope that you'll see them again. Or at least know the truth
Piper: A strong note to end on. Thanks blue. Alright, that's everything I needed. Your turn
Nathan: We need your help, Piper. A man named Kellogg kidnapped my son. But that's not all. He was working for the institute. He gave them Shaun
Piper: The institute? Hoo boy. I've been investigating those creeps for over a year now. The commonwealth's boogyman. Feared and hated by everyone
Nick: True enough
Piper: Sometimes they snatch people in the middle of the night. And sometimes they leave old synths behind to remind us that they're out there. But to this day there's no one that really knows where the institute is
Nick: Or how to find it
Piper: There must be someone who knows though. Like the guy who handed them Shaun
