(A couple of hours earlier)
(Dallas is in a bar collecting a bounty on a gang of raiders from a wastelander when a ghoul named Edward Deegan, walks up to him)
Edward: You there. We need to have a conversation
Dallas: I'm listening
Edward: I'm always looking for people who know how to handle themselves in dangerous situations. From what I hear, you may fit the bill
Dallas: I don't mind danger. So long as I get paid well enough
Edward: You will be well paid. I can promise you that
Dallas: Then count me in. Who are you?
Edward: I'm Edward Deegan. You'll mostly be working for me, but you'll need to talk to my boss first. His name is Jack Cabot. He likes to personally interview everyone I hire. He's careful like that. Come down to Cabot house on beacon hill, and you can meet the boss
(Dallas and Edward hop on the bike and ride to Cabot house, and it's very neat and vibrant inside. Like a pre war building)
Edward: Jack! I've got a new guy here
Jack: One moment! I'll just have to-
(The liquid in a test tube creates a tiny explosion, much to Jack's disappointment)
Jack: Damn. Clearly I need to adjust the mixture... Hello hello! Welcome to Cabot house. I'm Jack Cabot
Dallas: Edward said you needed to talk to me before he could hire me
Jack: Yes. Edward finds it tiresome, but I always like to personally get to know everyone who works for me. Please, have a seat. How about a drink?
Dallas: Sure. May as well
Jack: Edward, the good bourbon, eh?
(Jack and Dallas sit down and have a drink)
(Dallas takes a sip of bourbon, and his nose scrunches up a little)
Jack: Not a bourbon enjoyer?
Dallas: It's not bad, but I'm more of a whiskey man myself
Jack: I see. Before we get down to business, I have a question I like to ask my employees. Do you believe there's intelligent life in the universe? Not like flying saucers or little green men, but the ancestral dwellers of space
Dallas: It's not impossible, but it's not likely. I'm really just here about the job
Jack: Right. Edward. I presume this is about the missing shipment?
Edward: Yes
Jack: Then I should leave you to it. I need to get back to work. We'll talk more when things are less rushed. Welcome to the family
Edward: Ok. Now you are officially hired
Dallas: All I got from that was something about a missing shipment
Edward: You heard right. Jack owns a facility north of the city. There's an important package that went missing between here and there. I need you to track it down and bring it back to me. Any questions?
Dallas: What does this package look like? Just so I know what to look for
Edward: It's a metal case holding vials of serum. You don't need to worry about what it is. Jack needs it for his research. That's all you need to know. You should start at the parsons state insane asylum. We think the courier got ambushed when he was leaving the place. The guards heard gunfire, but they don't know exactly what happened
Dallas: Wait till they meet the real courier
Edward: Check in with Maria at parsons. She's in charge of the security force there. She can point you in the right direction
Dallas: Got it. I'll be back
(Dallas leaves Cabot house, hops on his motorcycle, and rides to parsons state insane asylum)
(As Dallas pulls up on his bike, a group of mercenaries have their eyes on him)
Maria: This place is off limits. You'd best move along
Dallas: A man named Edward Deegan sent me. I'm supposed to be looking for a missing package
Maria: Oh, you're the new guy. Have any experience with mercenary work?
Dallas: Plenty. And believe it or not, this wouldn't be the first time I've had to retrieve a missing package
Maria: Good. So, this package. We're pretty sure we know where it is. The guys that shot Ben are holed up in parsons creamery, just north of here
Dallas: Thanks. Bye
Maria: Hey. Be careful. It's weird that they're hanging around so close. Normal raiders would have grabbed the loot and bugged out by now. It's like they're scouting the place
Dallas: Noted
(Dallas walks north, and sure enough, there's a group of raiders in the building)
(Dallas whips out his anti-material rifle and shoots a raider in a window. The raider's body falls over a rail and onto the ground)
Raider: We're under attack!
(Dallas starts sniping the raiders from a distance while they panic and run around. Once they're all dead, Dallas moves in and finds an empty metal case)
Dallas: There's the case, but where's that serum?
(Dallas searches the raider's bodies, and he only finds a small handful of full vials of serum. The rest are empty)
Dallas: Oof. Edward's not gonna be happy about this one
(All of a sudden, Dallas's pip boy gets a transmission from the radio)
Nico: Dallas, it's Nico! Get Curie ready immediately! Nate's been shot!
Dallas: I guess I'm about to find out what this serum can really do. Lets see what you're hiding, Jack...
(Dallas sprints back to the parsons state insane asylum, hops on his bike, and revs up the engine)
Maria: Did you find it?
Dallas: Yeah, I found it. No time to explain
(Dallas speeds off into the distance as his tires screech against the road)
(Arriving at sanctuary hills, Dallas heads to the settlement's infirmary and sees Nathan in a hospital bed fighting for his life while Curie assesses his condition)
Dallas: Curie. I need you to analyze this serum
Curie: It should not take but a moment, monsieur Dallas... Oh. Oh my... Nico? You may want to see this
(Nico looks at the mixture on a terminal, and his brow furrows)
Nico: This serum's properties are interesting, Dallas. It contains ingredients that aren't even supposed to exist on earth. Where did you even get this?
Dallas: I'll explain later. Can we use this to save Nate?
Nico: This is similar to an alien biogel I've encountered and used at one point. It'll heal Nate, but it's gonna have some side effects. I don't know what they'll be. It gave me the ability to shoot lasers out of my eyes
Dallas: Do it
Nico: Alright. Here goes nothing
(Nico injects Nathan with the mysterious serum, and his wounds start to automatically heal themselves at a crazy speed while spitting the bullets from his skin)
Nathan: Thanks guys. I feel a lot better now
Nico/Dallas: (High five)
