Chapter 14. Another Love

Days After Until Dawn: -1,309

July 4th, 2011. It seemed like it had been so long ago but then again, it was a memory that he could recall off of the top of his head whenever he needed to.

Josh and his sisters had been happy. All together. All alive.

It had been his sophomore year. Hannah, Beth, and Sam were all freshmen. He had met Sam the first out of everyone apart from Chris. And she had made a great first impression for him.

July 4th was the first outing that the five had gone out. He and Chris had been around the three girls before but that had always been at school. All five hadn't been at the same place at once.

He and Chris had taken the same car, Chris driving. He had teased him about how Sam was going to be there because Josh had, stupidly, told him about his liking for Sam. But bringing up Ashley Brown from Chris's chemistry class made him shut up.

When they got there, all three girls were there waiting for them. "Well it's about time." Beth said, a smile wide on her face. Strangely enough, Beth's favorite holiday was the 4th of July.

It was one of the only ones in the summer time. "When do the fireworks start?" Chris asked. Beth blew a raspberry.

"Hell if I know." She said.

Just the five of them was an odd group but it was homey. Josh loved every single one of them. Granted, two of them were his sisters, but they all felt like they were a part of the family.

Chris went off with Beth and Hannah while Sam strayed behind with Josh.

"How was your ride coming up?" He asked her.

"Oh it was good. Blasting a bunch of pop songs on the aux was definitely not Beth or I's decision but ya know, Hannah." She rolled her eyes sarcastically and smiled and Josh.

He laughed and looked down at his feet.

"How do you feel about these fireworks?" He asked her.

She moved her head from side to side.

"They're alright. I was never one of those kids that was like 'oh wow fireworks!' But that didn't mean that I didn't like them." She said.

He nodded. There was a silence in between them but other things caught their eyes. The sounds of other people chatting around them filled the air as they tried to find somewhere to sit.

Beth had saved a spot for the each of them. She hadn't ever had a specific place for each person but she made sure no one stole their spots.

They each took a seat. Chris was at the end, followed by Josh, Sam, Hannah and then Beth.

The fireworks were announced to start in ten minutes so they had a little time to kill and conversations started.

"So Chris, about this girl, Ashley..." Sam began.

He rolled his eyes and sighed. "Yeah, what about her?" He asked.

"Well i was just wondering what your plan was." She said.

He gave a confused look. "What do you mean?"

"Well, if you need help or anything we have the girl expert over here," she pointed to Beth, "or we have the plan that the three of us came up with together." Sam explained.

Chris flipped off Sam and then shook his head. "I don't need help." He said.

"You say that now." Sam said, turning more towards Hannah and Beth so Chris couldn't hear her.
