Days After Until Dawn: 14
It was cold. Not as cold as it had been on the mountain. Nothing could ever be that cold. But it was almost as if the Wendigos brought the cold with them.
Emily gripped the steering wheel and had her eyes peeled for anything out of the ordinary. Ever since her encounter with the Wendigos, she had been on edge.
She hadn't gotten a wink of sleep, not that she could have if she wanted to.
She was at a red light, releasing her grip of the steering wheel and putting her hands in front of her mouth. She blew and then rubbed them together, warming them up.
The light turned green as she was reminded of where she was going. She wasn't sure why it had been the first thing in her mind in the morning but, she was going regardless.
She stepped out of her car and walked through the doors.
"I'm here to see Josh Washington." She croaked. It had been the first time she had spoken all morning.
"Visiting hours start at 8:00. You're welcome to sit in the waiting room until then." The nurse said.
It was 7:00.
How the hell did I not look at the time at all?
"Thank you but I'll just be back by then." She said.
She walked outside and remembered how cold it was outside. She had been struck with heat when she walked into the hospital.
She remembered the Wendigos too. How many of them were probably out there. Waiting. She couldn't walk back inside. Then she would have to explain why. She'd probably get admitted.
She walked back to her car, fumbling with her keys as she sat in the drivers seat.
She rubbed her hands on her face. "Fuck me." She said. She put her forehead on the steering wheel and thought to herself for a second.
What to do for an hour?
Usually she would go out shopping but given the circumstances, going out with a lot of people around, it wasn't her scene anymore.
She heard her stomach growl at her and she decided she'd find a place to eat. She'd get take out so she wasn't gone for too long.
She found some place right around the corner. It had a very forgetful name and very forgetful food but it filled her up at least.
She had gotten it and driven back into the hospital parking lot. She ate it in no time at all but doing that made her feel like she had just eaten a 3 course meal.
It gave her time to splay out in her seat and let her food digest. She twiddled her fingers in her lap as she moaned and groaned, cursing herself for eating that much.
She checked her phone to see it was 8:20. She took a few breaths and she sat up and walked towards the doors again. She was greeted by the receptionist with a smile and without a word she was lead to Josh's room. They had remembered her.
She knocked on Josh's door and was surprised to see that he was already awake and occupied with a notepad on his lap.
When he looked up and saw her, he looked equally as surprised.
"Hey." He said.
"Hey." She said. Her voice was still raspy from staying silent for so long.
She held her arm with one of her hands. "So I bet you wanna know why I'm here." Emily said.
Josh shook his head from side to side. "Yeah sorta." He said.
She put her hands in her hair. She sat down on the end of his bed and he tried moving his legs. Being strapped to the bed wasn't helping that.
