Dream's POV
Every time I look at my neck, I remember what I saw. There is something that my subconscious wants me to know; my brain has a funny way of telling me before I die.
As the lights went out in this world, I saw myself in a room with a lot of guys. I recognized every one of them. They were all guys that I had history with. Then someone told me to choose a partner for a final walk through my life before I go.
Even though I didn't choose anyone, I realized after I woke up I should have chosen George. I should have chosen him because he's the first person that I would bet my full trust on. He's always too kind for his own good. Most importantly, he was still there when I woke up. He cares.
This being said, he stopped acting so weird. I don't know if that scares me more or less. Did he resolve the issue? Is someone blackmailing him? I would never know because he won't tell me.
"George can we talk." I said. George stopped his game and looked up.
"Yeah, sure. What's up?" He asked and I took a breath.
"We've both been acting weird lately. I know what it is for me, but I would like to know what's been up with you." I explained.
"I.. I want to hear what you saw when you blacked out first because that seems interesting." He countered.
I took a breath and explained to him, everything. I told him each memory I visited, about the halls I walked down, and in a way it was like I chose him after all.
"Your turn." I said when I was done.
"Okay." He said and took a deep breath. His eyes stared watering and his voice cracked when he spoke.
"Do you know Nick?" He then said and my thoughts burned up. I couldn't believe that Nick was involved.
"Of course. What about him?"
"He came to the cabin a few days ago." He started. I found it best that I swallow my thoughts and let him speak.
"When he was here, he did some things... to me." He said and my eyes shot open. I remained silent but George noticed my shift in energy.
"I didn't want him to! I didn't do anything back!" He yelled and I finally piped up.
"That's not what I'm most angry at. I trust you." I said and he burst out crying.
"I'm sorry." He whimpered and I pulled him to my chest.
"No, I'm sorry." I said and kissed his forehead.
"Sorry for what?" He asked.
"Sorry that I am now obligated to murder him." I said and he laughed. I pulled back, showing just how serious I was about that statement.
"You are kidding right?" He asked and I got up, searching the floorboards for my scrap kit I stashed.
"No. What he did it can't.. he can't be forgiven." I said and he grabbed my hand.
"Clay, I agree with you as much as anyone else would, but it was days ago and he was clearly drunk. Besides, nothing too serious went down so it's probably nothing." He explained.
"Did he so much as hold your hand without your consent?" I asked, finally kicking the right board. I bent down to open it.
"I mean... no." He said and I pulled the box from the floor.
"Then he didn't have my consent either. He will pay." I said and opened a box of weapons scraps.
"I thought you were clean." He said angrily.
"I was." I responded.
George stayed at the cabin as per my request. I looked at my makeshift weapon and smiled. It just needed to be a drive by.
Then I saw him through his window.
Nick was at his kitchen table, drinking alone. He still had his uniform on. He was just sitting there, as if he was waiting to be shot.
I raised my weapon and aimed immediately at his head. Then he saw me. Instead of him running further into a room in his house I can't shoot him from, he stood up and stood right in front of the window. He was just looking at me.
I tightened my grip, taking a breath and... I dropped my weapon. I threw it on the seat next to me and sat in silence for a bit.
Goddamnit! Fuck! Why is this even hard?! It should be easy, he fucked up! Then the thought crossed my mind, maybe that isn't my thoughts. Maybe these were never my real thoughts. I thought more about what I wanted to do. He wants to die, so I won't give him that satisfaction. But I still needed to take it out.
I got out of the car and went to Nick's door, knocking aggressively. He opened it and smiled.
"Ahh, Dream! You came to see me!" He said and I punched him square in the nose. His eyes watered as he held his nose.
"I assume you know what that's for?" I questioned.
"Maybe." He winced and I grabbed the back of his neck, kicking him repeatedly in the stomach.
"Don't you ever! Touch! George! Again! I! Don't! Care! If! You're! Drunk!" I screamed at him. I then threw him into the coffee table, breaking it like a wrestling prop.
"I'm sorry!" He protested and I grabbed the nearest object.
"If I ever need to come back to this cumstained house ever again, I will not hesitate to kill you." I said and hit him in the nuts with the stool I grabbed. He doubled over in pain, crying heavily.
"Some police officer." I said and threw the stool at him, leaving his house calmly.
When I got home I saw George sitting on the couch. He wasn't doing anything. He just sat there. His head turned to me slowly but his expression didn't change much.
"So, did you do it?" He asked in a monotone voice.
"I couldn't." I said in a disappointed tone.
"Why not?" He asked and I took a breath.
"I realized that his life is awful and it's actually better to let him suffer living instead of dying peacefully." I said and George nodded.
"So why were you gone so long?" He asked and I sighed.
"I couldn't stop myself. I kicked the shit outta him. I'd be shocked if he can even stand up tomorrow." I said and I felt my heart sink. You assaulted someone! I thought. But he did it first. I thought back. Doesn't make it less of a crime.
My thoughts were interrupted by George tightly wrapping himself around me.
"You're my hero." He cried.
"You're mine too." I said back.
