George's POV
It's been eight hours and Clay never returned from the store. I started to get worried. What if he got recaptured. No, if he did that, Techno would have come for me too. What happened to him.
I sat outside waiting for him. It got dark out really fast. Bad and Skeppy tried to get me back into the house but I refused to go in until Clay was back. It got colder, but I still couldn't help but stay.
Skeppy walked out holding a couple cups of coffee and a blanket.
"Hey George. I know you won't come inside, so can I sit out here?" Skeppy asked. I moved over and let him sit down, he handed me a coffee.
"He's been gone too long." I said.
"Not long enough that we can do anything." Skeppy reminded me. I sipped my coffee. Skeppy draped the blanket over my shoulders.
"Just because Clay's gone doesn't mean you should freeze." Skeppy said. I sighed.
"I know. I just can't not worry." I said. Skeppy took a breath.
"You should try and distract yourself for now. We'll call the cops tomorrow if he still isn't here." Skeppy said.
"Thanks. You're a great friend." I said and Skeppy smiled.
"What's wrong with my chip?" I asked. Skeppy looked down.
"It was installed so poorly that I can't make much sense of it." Skeppy said.
"How so?" I asked.
"All the wires and parts were switched around. It was almost like Techno installed it backwards." Skeppy said.
"Or upside down?" I asked.
Skeppy looked at me with a confused look, then his eyes went wide.
"You mean you know the angle it was installed at?" Skeppy asked.
"I wasn't measuring or anything, but I was hung upside down when he installed it." I explained. Skeppy stood up and ran inside, coming back with a pen and paper.
"Could you draw the approximate angle you were at?" Skeppy asked. I took the pen and paper. I drew myself hanged upside down, then I drew techno. I assumed his chest was at my head level. Skeppy took it from me a danced with excitement.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"I can disconnect you!" Skeppy yelled. My eyes shot open.
"Really?!" I beamed. Skeppy nodded vigorously. I jumped up and hugged him.
"I needed some good news." I said.
We ran inside and got Bad to help us. They put me under so that I couldn't feel anything.
When I woke up, there was a burning pain in my skull. I flexed my jaw and it worsened it.
"How do you feel?" I heard Skeppy ask.
"Is it.. is it gone?" I asked and felt the scar on the back of the shaved spot on my head.
"It's gone." Skeppy said and smiled. I then looked around.
"Where's Clay?" I asked. Everything got silent. I looked down.
"Oh." I said and they both started comforting me.
"I'm sure he'll be back soon." Bad said and gave me a weak smile.
"Yeah. He's probably just planning a surprise for one of us and lost track of time." Skeppy reassured.
"I appreciate it guys, but I don't want to hear lies. I know he's not coming back." I said. The other two sighed.
"We're all rooting for him." Skeppy said.
"I know. I just wish I could see him." I said.
"Maybe a shower will help? We could make hot chocolate and watch a movie before bed." Bad offered.
"I think I'll just go to bed." I said. They both sighed.
"Be safe." Skeppy replied. I nodded and left.
I laid down on the bed and started crying. I couldn't stop thinking about Clay. He's gone. I don't know where he is. Whoever has him will probably reach out to me next. All my worries kept building, until I cried myself to sleep.
I woke up with crusty eyes. I looked over at the still empty bed spot. I rubbed the spot, wishing Clay would somehow appear. It's not like him to just... take off.
I walked out and saw Skeppy and Bad sitting on the couch. I sat down next to them. They didn't say anything, because they felt sorry for me.
"Morning guys." I said weakly.
"Good morning, George." Bad said. Skeppy smiled at me. I looked away from them.
"Any news from Clay?" Skeppy asked. I shook my head and felt the tears coming back.
Skeppy sighed and got up, walking over to the counter. He picked up his phone and dialled a number.
"Yes hi, I'd like to report a missing person. His name is Clay." Skeppy started I felt like sinking into the couch forever.
"Thank you officer." Skeppy said and hung up the phone.
"There. As promised." Skeppy said and sat back down. I thanked him. Bad held my hand and squeezed it as if to say Clay will be back. Deep down I knew I'd have to be the one to find him, or he's not coming back.
