(A/N: I would like to formally apologize for Milk... and this reminder of Milk.)
George's POV
Clay shook me awake. I look at my phone to see that it's almost noon.
"George, can you join me on the porch?" Clay asked. I rubbed my eyes.
"Um.. sure." I said. He smiled then walked out.I threw on an oversized shirt, some tight shorts and slippers. I opened the door and stepped out, I see Clay lighting a candle over a China tea set. I looked at the loose tshirt drape on him with baggy pants to match. His messy hair falling into his face slightly. I smiled at this perfect scene.
"Tada!" Clay beamed. I laughed slightly.
"What's this for?" I asked.
"Uh... you?" He said, confused.
"No I mean what did I do for this?" I laughed.
"Oh! Uh.. nothing. Just thought you would enjoy this." He said and looked at his feet. I threw my arms around him.
"It's perfect," I said and pulled back, "you're perfect." I said and he kissed me, then pulled out my chair for me.He looked nervous. I only know him to act nervous when something is wrong, but I guess after that anxiety attack he had it may be nothing.
He poured us each a cup of tea and sat down next to me.
"Careful, it's fresh out of the kettle." He warned and I thanked him. He looked into his cup and swirled the leaves around.
"Why are all the leaves not bagged?" I asked.
"Friend taught me how to read tea leaves, thought I could read them after." He responded. I grinned.
"That's so cool! Do you believe in stuff like that?" I asked."What? Fate?" Clay said. I nodded.
"Well... yeah. Like do you believe soulmates exist and our lives have a plan?" I asked.
"Well I don't know about soulmates and plans, but I know that there must be something out there looking out for me." He said and sipped the tea.
"How do you know?" I asked.
"What is this? Twenty questions?" He joked. He then said, "despite being who I was, I now have a boyfriend who cares about me. I have a home to share and a new office that was just finished. Whenever I have a problem I don't panic like I used to anymore because I know the end result will be okay. It always has been, I was just too blind to see it." Clay blinked slowly, I stood there in shock.
"Wow. This turned into a deep conversation." I joked.
"Drinking tea on the porch will do that to you." Clay laughed."George, I have a question for you." He stated.
"Shoot." I said.
"Why did you come back?" He asked and my thoughts blanked.
"Honestly, I don't know. It felt right." I said.
"Okay. Another question." He started.
"You said one." I laughed.
"What is this?" He asked gesturing to both of us.
"We are dating Clay." I state.
"I know. But what's the end game, are we real? I know that's dumb, but I want you to know I'm committed to you 100%." He said. I looked down at my feet.
"Well... I want to spend my life with you. I'm already your roommate, your boyfriend, and your number one support system." I said back. Clay grabbed my hand, holding it and meeting my gaze.
"I promise to always put 100% into this relationship. I will every day." Clay promised.
"I want the same thing." I said and he kissed me, then pulled away."Do you still have tea?" He asked.
"Like one sip." I state.
"Leave it. Give me your cup and saucer." He demanded.
First he read his own. It looked like a flower. Maybe it means he's growing.
"Now yours." He said and swished the cup, flipping it to reveal a ring of herbs.
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"Maybe it means this." Clay said and stepped out of his chair leading me away from the table slightly. He got down on one knee and I felt my eyes start watering as my mouth stretched into the biggest smile.
"George..." Clay started then pulled a ring out of his pant's pocket, "... will you marry me." He said and the tears steamed down my face as I nodded vigorously. He jumped up and put the ring on my finger then pulled me in for a long kiss. When we broke away I was still crying. He wiped my tears and smiled, still pressed against me.
"What's wrong babe?" Clay asked.
"Your proposal was so much better than mine." I joke and he laughs pulling away slightly. We swayed in each other's arms for a bit.
"How did you get the tea leaves to do that?" I asked.
"Whatever's out there was giving me a last sign." Clay said.
"What sign?" I asked.
"That this is good for me. That you're the most important thing to me, and I'm correct to think that." Clay answered and the tears started again.
