Clay's POV
Nick and Karl were amazing hosts. George and I found a cheap two bedroom house that is in need of renovations. We checked it out, most of the jobs are DIY anyways.

The rooms were spacious, there was an actual chimney, and we are turning the second bedroom into the office. I forgot how easy it is to live without Techno being on my trail. I'm just sorry Skeppy doesn't yet.

We got started on the walls. The previous owners hung up a lot of paintings, so there was a lot of holes.
"Remind me again why we can't just hire a contractor?" George asked.
"Because they are expensive and unnecessary." I said and continued plastering in the chunks of missing wall.

I looked at George to see he had made extensive progress.
"Wow. You already have most of a room done." I said.
"It's not that hard." George said and continued at his pace.
"I can paint if you want to take the plaster over fully." I offered.
"Sure." George said. I got out some plastic tarps and secured them around the baseboards of one of the rooms George was done.
I poured some paint out into a tray and began painting.

~le time skip~

We were done for the day. All the walls were fixed and painted.
"I'm ready to lie down forever." George joked.
"Really? I'm just getting started." I joked and he punched me lightly.
"I'm starving." He said.
"Let's get something to eat. We need to go pick up our car anyways." I said and George took my hand.

We walked into town and stopped at a fancy restaurant. It was called the flint house. fancy. Me and George sat across from each other and looked at our menus.
"We've never done this." I said suddenly.
"What?" George asked.
"We've never been on a date like this. This is our first date." I said and George laughed.

"Clay, just because it's true doesn't mean you need to point it out." George said.
"Why, what's wrong?" I asked.
"I'm terrified of first dates." George said and I laughed.
"Is this why you waited until we were married to date me?" I joked. George kicked me under the table.
"Maybe." He joked back.

We got to eat. The rest of the dinner was uneventful. We picked up our car and threw an air mattress in the back of it.
We drove home and slept in the back of the car.

"Clay?" George asked.
"Yeah?" I asked back.
"Are our lives gonna be boring now that we aren't on the run?" George asked, I sighed.
"Maybe. It just means it will be easier to protect you." I said and George cuddled up to me.

"I love you. I know I always say it, but you need to hear it." George said. I sighed.
"I love you too. And I hear it plenty." I said. George laughed.
"Who did you have before me?" George asked.
"What do you mean? Like who was I with?" I asked.

"If anything went wrong, you'd come to me. Who was that person before?" George asked.
"I... I guess myself." I said and looked down. George hugged me tight.

"You're too strong to be two people. Let me be one of them." George said. I hugged him back.
"You already are." I said and he smiled against my chest.

"I didn't really have anyone either." George said.
"Really?" I asked.
"Karl was really my only friend. Then he got on some fancy sports team and stopped hanging out with me." George said.
"I had no idea. How do you feel about him now?" I asked.
"He's different now, but in a good way. I'm willing to bet he's the reason Nick is trying to get better." George said.

"We were both pretty big losers huh?" I joked and George laughed.
"Extremely." He said then dosed off. I tucked his hair behind his ear. He mumbled nonsense in his sleep. The car was cold, but I felt warm inside. Just a bit longer, then our lives will be perfect.

The next morning, George shook me awake.
"Furniture day!" George yelled. I laughed.
"Someone's excited to get a bed in the house." I joked. George blushed and pinned me to the air bed.
"Please. Any furniture is an update." George joked.

We took the air bed down and loaded our car up with ikea furniture. Then we started putting it together. I always loved these kinds of things. The way it all fits together yet frustrates the hell outta people.

"I got a shelf!" George yelled like he just got a bingo.
"Bed's half done! You said Karl was delivering the mattress!" I yelled.
"Yup." George said and walked into the room, watching me finish off the bed frame.

"You look like a sexy handyman." George said.
"Well the job's done. How would you like to pay?" I asked and leaned against the wall, smirking.

"I'm afraid I don't have cash or card ready. Do you think we could work something out?" George said and wrapped his arms around my neck.
"I think we could." I said and kissed him. He leaned into me, making the kiss deeper. I grabbed his hips and rammed him into the wall.

"So rough~" George said, out of breath from the kiss.
"Just wait~"I replied and kissed him again. I pulled his pants down slightly then we heard a knock at the front door.
"Shit, Karl." George said and I pulled back.
I looked at George.
"You might want to hide from him." I said and George looked at his obvious boner.
"Fine. You deal with it." George said and ran into the bathroom.

I opened the door and Karl stood there.
"Mattress is here, where's George?" Karl asked.
"Household renovations." I replied and walked past Karl. Karl helped me haul the mattress to the bed frame and drop it in place.
"There, if you see George, tell him I said hi." Karl said then started to leave.
"Yep, I will, thanks." I said and closed the door behind him.

I turned around and George walked out of the bathroom as I left him.
"Karl says hi." I joked.
"That was too close." George said.
"You could say that again." I said.
