**One week later**

EMILY'S POV:

The last week has been the same thing every day. Waiting. Hoping. Wondering. But today the champions got drawn for the tournament. I barely slept last night, at one point I got up and paced around my room. I knew Cedric would do well if chosen but these tasks are grueling. Part of me wishes he had never put his name in the goblet, to begin with. God, why can't Kaitlyn be here when you need her. I tried my best to push all my thoughts aside and get ready for today. The only thing really good about today is that we didn't have classes.

There was a knock on the door before I saw Cedric come in. "Are you ready to go?" He asked with a smile. He seemed excited. I nodded and tried my best to put on a believable smile before grabbing his hand to walk down to the great hall. When we got there I was caught off guard by how many people were there, everyone eats at different times so it usually isn't this busy all at once. We took our seats and shortly after Dumbledore began his speech. It was finally the time I dreaded. When the champions are to be picked. Victor Krum was the first to be picked so that took care of Drumstrang. Next Fleur was picked so Beuxbatons was done. Now it was just Hogwarts. Dumbledore's mouth opened and I wanted to not even listen to who was picked. "Cedric Diggory!" Dumbledore announced. All the air left my body and I felt like I struggled to breathe. Cedric stood up and walked to the front of the room where the other champions stood. Once he turned around I think he noticed I could hardly breathe and he mouthed, It's okay, that made me feel a little better but I was still anxious. It didn't help that Kaitlyn wasn't awake yet, so she wouldn't even get to see him compete unless she woke up in the next week.

After the ceremony, Cedric had a few minutes to talk before he had to go meet with the other champions again for a press conference thing. He came up to me and gave me a tight hug which I desperately needed. "Don't worry about me, everything is going to be okay." He said softly. "How could you possibly know if things are going to be okay though and Kaitlyn-" I was cut off by Cedric. "Will wake up soon and everything will go back to normal." He said with a comforting smile. I just nodded and put my head back on his chest. "Speaking of whom, I want to go see Kaitlyn. She may not be able to hear me but I want to tell her that I'm a champion in the tournament." Cedric said which was surprising as he had only seen Kaitlyn three times thus far. "Okay," I said and released him from the hug. We walked down to the infirmary and no one was there thankfully. Cedric knelt by the bed and lent against the side with his arms. "Hey, you... I know you like to sleep but you need to wake up because I want you to watch me compete in the tournament. I know surprise surprise I'm a champion. I'll let you rest but hurry up so I can brag to you about how much better I am than you since I'm a champion. Champion. I like that word." Cedric sounded so hopeful and he was talking to her as if she was sitting up talking back to him. His words made my eyes tear up but I held back the tears. His smile warmed the room, it was filled with hope and positivity. Maybe this tournament is what we all needed. Something to take our minds off of everything that's happened in the last month. A mental diversion. A walked over and stood behind Cedric and rested my hand on his shoulder. He had tears threatening to leave his eyes at all but he was covering it with a smile. Hope. Maybe that was all we needed.

After a while, Cedric spoke up "I feel like a terrible person, a terrible brother." "Why Ced?" I asked, confused. "I should have been here more, not hiding from my problems in my room." He said looking back at me. "Cedric Diggory, you're not a terrible person and definitely not a terrible brother. This is also Kaitlyn we're talking about and she wouldn't want people sitting here feeling sorry for her. She would want us to be happy and if we decided to sit with her she would want us to make jokes and make sure everyone was happy and laughing. Don't beat yourself down for something you can't change. I know you and I know it kills you that you couldn't protect her from this but it's not something you could have prevented." I leaned down and wrapped my arms around him. "I could have prevented this, I should have told her every update I had gotten so it wasn't so much all at once." He said leaning against my arm that was laid over his shoulder. "This isn't your fault. Stop telling yourself that. Look on the bright side, you're about to compete in this tournament and she'll wake up soon and she's going to watch you compete and remind you how stupid you are but be proud of you at the same time." My comment got a small laugh out of him. "She most definitely would remind me how stupid I am." He said.

Cedric had to leave not long after that and I noticed Draco's ring on the table next to Kaitlyn's bed that I had dropped off a couple of days ago. It really made me think about the two of them. I didn't see it at first but now I've realized how good they would be together. Draco is very put together and high class and plays quidditch, while Kaitlyn is put together but likes to have fun and be a rebel and will put people in their place if they act too cocky. Merlin knows Draco Malfoy is cocky. Very cocky. They're perfect. Now she really has to wake up because little does she know her Prince Charming is waiting for her. She would cringe at that thought but it's true. One thing to know about Kaitlyn is that she has never believed in true love. I think it comes from her family history where she wasn't shown love other than on very rare occasions. She may not have known love but she somehow knows how to love unconditionally.
