If it wasn't for what had happened the day before, it would have been the perfect morning. A soft ray of sun was streaming through the curtains, the birds were chirping, and the bed where Sara was laying on was warm and comfortable. But the fact was that the day before had happened, George had caught Sara speaking with Fred and she had had no other choice than to tell him the truth, which led him to kick her out of the flat. Just thinking about it all made Sara's eyes stung with tears, and the worst part was, Fred wasn't even with her to comfort her. No, correction, the worst part of it was that even if Fred was there with her, he wouldn't be able to do anything much as hold her hand.
Not really wanting to, Sara opened her eyes and stared at the ceiling of Matilda's bedroom. The blonde was no longer in the bed with her, which led Sara to believe she was already eating breakfast and ready for work. Work. What should she do about work? She didn't really feel like going. On Tuesday's she had to work all day with Thomas patients, which meant she had to work all day with him, which made her not want to go even more. Reluctantly, she got out of bed and headed downstairs to eat something. She was pleasantly surprised to find Matilda sitting at the table eating breakfast.
"Hey" she greeted the blonde as she made her way to the table and sat down. Matilda smiled brightly at her.
"Good morning, how did you sleep?" Sara smiled softly at her.
"Well enough"
"Good. I'm staying at home today, and so are you. You're in no condition of going to work, even less if you have to deal with my idiotic brother all day" Matilda said with a roll of her green eyes "So don't even think about going, I already sent an owl in your name saying you're sick" Sara's smile widened. It really amazed her sometimes how well Matilda knew her.
"Thank you Mati, I really don't feel like facing Thomas today, especially after yesterday"
"Do you mean because of the reason you appeared crying on my doorstep or because of some other reason?"
"Well, both things" At that statement, one of Matilda's eyebrows went up in question "Thomas asked me out yesterday"
"Oh that son of b-"
"Don't worry, I'm not mad, I turned him down obviously, but I don't want to face the consequences of that today"
"Good. He is so thick-headed that moron" Sara smiled and replied.
"Don't worry about it" Then she leaned on the table to grab the pot and pour herself a cup of tea.
"Are you ready now to tell me why you appeared on my doorstep yesterday crying?" the blonde asked repeating her previous words. A soft smile played on her lips and a spark of hope in her eyes. Sara knew Matilda didn't want to know because she wanted a good gossip, she wanted to know because she was her best friend, and she was worried about her after all a scene where Sara cried like she had done the day before was never a good sign, she was the kind of person that kept her emotions under control, 99% of the time.
What was Sara supposed to respond? She couldn't tell Matilda that George had asked her to leave the flat without telling her the reason why. Matilda was her best friend, she knew that and she knew she could trust the blonde with her life, but still, a secret like "I can see and talk to my dead boyfriend" is not an easy one to reveal, there were many scenarios in which exposing that to Matilda could end wrong. The most obvious one was that her friend could think she was completely bonkers and maybe Sara could end up just like Mary, locked up in St. Mungo's with everyone believing she was mad. Merlin, sometimes even she wondered if she wasn't really hallucinating Fred, maybe she missed him so much that her mind was trying to protect her from the pain or something. Deep in her heart she knew that wasn't the case, she knew Fred was real, there were many proofs of that; Benjamin, the seer she had met in Sarrajaza, shit even Sam had said there was another aura hanging around her all the time. But could really Mati think she was crazy? No, Sara didn't think so. It was Matilda Clark she was talking about. Her best friend since their first year at Hogwarts, the one who probably knew her better than she knew herself, the same Matilda that hadn't mentioned her and Cedric's relationship because Sara was so miserable when he died, the same girl that knew she was in love with Fred even before she knew it, no, Sara didn't think it was possible Matilda would think she was mad. So, taking a deep breath, and with hopeful thoughts on her mind, the brunette decided to take a chance on her best friend.
