Atem awoke with a start. He sat up and looked around. He was inside of his tent. No one was with him, but he heard voices outside. It took him a second to remember what had happened and his eyes widened.
"Tèa!" He stood up and ran out of the tent. Joey, Tristan, and Seto were talking amongst themselves. They looked up in surprise.
Tèa appeared suddenly and slammed into Atem, hugging him tightly. "Atem! You're awake. I was so worried."
Atem hugged her back, burying his face in her soft, brown hair. "I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have left you behind when you needed me." Tears formed in his eyes. "And then Bakura told me you were dead and I thought I failed you. I couldn't even think straight! I believed him, Tèa, I thought you were dead! I thought I'd never see you again, and I never even got to be with you when it happened."
Tèa shook her head. "Don't think about it. It didn't happen. I'm fine, we both are." He nodded and stepped back.
"How did you escape?"
"Jordyn," she answered. Atem's eyes widened in surprise. "She rescued me and brought me here."
"She save you from Bakura too," Seto added. Atem turned to him in surprise. "You better not send her away again or we'll be killed," he growled. "I hope you learned your lesson."
"She's here?" Atem looked around in search of the dragon.
Joey pointed at a distance away from the camp. "She's over there somewhere. She's still afraid you're angry with her."
"I'll speak with her," Atem told them as he walked in that direction. A few minutes away from the campsite he saw the dragon, black in the night, sitting by a tree. Yugi was there too with her. He appeared to be trying to bandage her wound.
He growled in frustration. "It won't stay on! What's the deal here?" The bandage was peeling off every time he would put it on her wound.
Jordyn sighed. "Yugi, I told you, the magic in the dagger won't let it heal right," she said with a tired voice. She winced, the wound was becoming more and more painful every second. And it was draining her strength. She was feeling woozier as the time passed and she could barely stand.
Yugi frowned. "No, I'm not giving up. I have to find a way to heal this thing." He tried putting on the bandage and holding it with his hand forcefully, but it made Jordyn cry out and she reared back. Yugi's hand couldn't reach her so the bandage fell off.
The dragon shook her head. She stepped back. "No, don't touch it, please. That made it ten times worse," she whimpered. She cringed in pain. "It's only getting worse, Yugi. I don't know how much longer I can last," she said softly, holding back tears.
"Don't talk like that, Jordyn," Yugi said as he hugged her gently. "You'll be fine."
Atem had appeared by then. Jordyn looked at him timidly. Yugi was watching him carefully. Atem stared at the ground shamefully.
"I came to apoligize," he said. "Jordyn, I'm terribly sorry for the way I acted and treated you. It was wrong and cruel. I want to take back everything I said because it wasn't true. We really do need you and we never would've gotten this far without you. You're an amazing guardian and I couldn't have wished for better. I understand if you never forgive me, but at least stay with us," he said.
Jordyn bowed her head. "I do forgive you. You were angry and scared, and that is totally understandable. And of course I will stay, Pharaoh. I would never leave you guys."
"You don't have to call me that," Atem said. "That was out of line. You do have my respect, Jordyn. You are allowed to call me Atem."
The dragon nodded gratefully. "Thank you, Atem."
