Darkness. Despair. Death.
The message was clear. Someone wasn't going to make it through the night.
Atem crumbled the note in his hands.
I'm not going to let that happen, he swore to himself.
Nirvana sent the message earlier that morning in a small bird's talons, which Atem found very surprising when he awoke to a bird chirping loudly in his ear. He refused to show it to the others.
"Nothing is set in stone Nirvana," Atem growled. "The future can still change." He looked down at the crumpled piece of paper and his eyes narrowed. He tore it up into nothingness. "And it will," he said harshly.
"Atem? What's wrong?" Tèa walked up beside him. She could tell something was bothering him.
Atem forced a smile. "Nothing, just thinking." He quickly stepped on the torn up paper bits to cover it up.
Tèa crossed her arms and frowned at him. "Why are you lying?"
"What? I'm not lying," Atem said quickly.
"Atem, you almost never lie, so it's really easy to tell when you are. What's wrong?"
He sighed and looked away. "I guess there's no hiding anything from you." He moved his foot to reveal the torn up note. "Nirvana sent a warning. She had a vision last night. Someone isn't going to make it through today."
"You mean someone's going to die?!" Tèa said in a panicked voice. Atem nodded sadly. "But it could be anyone right? What if its Bakura or Marik? That would be a good thing."
Atem shook his head. "It has nothing to do with them. It's going to be someone in our group."
"This is terrible," Tèa said quietly. "One of us is..." She trailed off.
"No." Atem turned her towards him. "None of us are going anywhere. The future can always change. It's not guaranteed that someone will get killed. We'll make it through, I promise. We ALL will be fine."
"How can you be so sure?" She sat down on the ground in shock. "Nirvana's never been wrong...she won't be wrong now. One of us is going to be killed!" Tèa buried her face in her hands. "This is exactly what I was afraid of! And now it's too late, there's no escaping this."
"That's not true," Atem said as he knelt down beside her. "We'll be fine, I promise. I know this seems bad, but we can still stop this. Lets get out of here before something happens. We can still leave."
"You know we can't do that. It won't change anything, Bakura will just come after us." She sighed. "We'll just have to deal with it when it happens." She stood up. "Let's go finish this then. It needs to end."

Bakura stood at the base of the shrine. He and Marik had moved from their cave to an abandoned shrine a few miles away. The thief stared off into the distance.
This should buy us some time, he thought to himself. That last battle didn't go as planned at all. His eyes narrowed. That insolent guardian has getting interfered in my plans for the last time!
You know, you shouldn't blame her for everything that goes wrong. Ryo's spirit appeared beside him. It's not always her fault.
Bakura growled at him. "Don't get me started with you, boy. I'm still angry with you and your little stunt you pulled last night."
The bracelet?
"Yes, that," he spat. "Now they have a weapon they can use against us! Do you even realize the advantage they have against us now?!"
