" let's watch the stars tonight "
▬▬▬▬▬
THE DAY STRETCHED LIKE GUM and Luffy wasn't sure what to do with it. He was already done with his morning training with Rayleigh and now he laid in the soft grass in front of the cliff, eyes closed and just relaxing.
The sun warmed his skin and tickled his nose, engulfing him in pure, unfiltered warmth. Soon enough, he opened his eyes and took a deep breath as he looked up at the sky.
He saw the fading silhouette of the moon, drawn with soft white onto the blue canvas and its shape, in a weird, poetic way, reminded him of Law.
It was a weird association, but whenever the night draped the world in dark blue linen and the moon was able to rise, the cool night breeze, the silent darkness and the distance of the stars reminded him of Law.
He felt his heart skip a beat and allowed a big smile to appear on his lips.
When he thought about the morning, the way he had woken up next to him and had been able to hear him laugh, his stomach fluttered with happiness.
He wasn't sure how to name these feelings or what to think of them. The only thing he knew was that it made him happy to be with Law, that in those moments, the sun was a little brighter, the flowers more beautiful and his heart a little lighter.
The pain he had felt since they had fled from Marineford was still there, but he slowly managed to accept things, slowly managed to heal.
And Law had helped most with that. The fact that he eventually had to leave again stung in his chest and Luffy closed his eyes again, feeling the warmth of the sun hit his eyelids.
For a while, he just laid there, in complete silence apart from the sounds of the sea, the scent of salt and sand surrounding him.
When he heard voices coming closer towards the spot he laid in, he sat up to look at the people approaching him.
His heart skipped a beat when he saw Law, but he frowned a little when he saw that he was talking with Margaret.
They seemed to talk about a rather interesting topic, because Law didn't give her short snippets of an answer like he usually did. Instead, he was having a full conversation with her, something he usually never did with most people around him.And in that moment, Luffy felt his heart sink to his stomach. Like a devil fruit user falling into the ocean, it sank into an abyss of darkness, too helpless and weak to swim back up.
There was no guarantee that Law liked him the way he liked him.
The realization made a sharp pain sting in Luffy's chest and he quickly turned away from the two, directing his gaze to the sea instead.
