LAW HAD MANY "relationships" in his life. Even though almost all of them had been skinships in form of one-night-stands, they had been a sort of relationship, a short illusion of love.
But the most complicated relationship had always been the one with ket.
It had been there when solitary and loneliness had swallowed him, had been there when his nightmares had made him go insane, had been there when he had needed a break from the world around him. Even though it had wrecked him with every encounter, it had been there.
The only thing in his life that he had always been able to rely on. The only thing that had stayed.
It had been the most toxic relationship he'd ever had, but had also been the most beautiful, the most trusting one.
And even though he had decided to end this toxic relationship two years prior, now it drew him in again.
Law was so desperate for something that would stay. And because humans rarely did, because they left and died and withered and changed, it had to be the white powder stored away in the furthest corner of the lowest drawer in the operation room.
Stored far away from Shachi, Bepo and Penguin, who had forcefully dragged him away from the drug in his darkest times, because their captain had almost lost himself between nightly trips, depression and short periods of euphoria.
He owed his life to them and the guilt nagged on his heart when he frantically opened the drawer and reached in with his hand, feeling for the small plastic bag that had stayed there untouched and unbothered for such a long time.
"Don't do this." a voice in his head said, but it was too low and weak between the self-hate, doubt and fear in his mind.
The alcohol was still messing with his head and his senses and his adult brain knew how wrong this was. But the teenager part of his soul remembered how easy everything felt with ket, how light and soft and better.
He just wanted to feel a little bit better.
"Leave it in there. You don't need this." the voice in his head said and he hated it for sounding like Cora.
At the same time, it sounded like a part of Shachi's voice was also in there, along with Penguin, Bepo, Ikkaku...
And Luffy.
Law swayed and stumbled until his back hit the metal shelf behind him, the loud sound making him wince as he looked down at the baggy between his sweaty, trembling fingers.
