Arakala's Princess

Chapter 3

"A what?!" I screech. Okay, out of all things, I wasn't expecting.....

"A queen, honey." Mom says and I burst out laughing.

"Oh god, I thought you guys were serious for a moment, oh god." I say in between my laughs. I look at my family, to see that they weren't laughing with me. They all had serious expressions on their faces. I stop laughing and sit up properly. "Wait.... Are you guys actually serious?"

"What does it look like?" Dylan snaps.

"Then why didn't you tell me?" I ask.

"That's because... We didn't know how you would take it." Mom says carefully.

"And Dylan knew?!" I screech. God, I thought they were better than that. They told Dylan, before me?! They could have at least told us together.

"He knew by accident. He overheard.... A conversation." Dad says.

"Still. That's unfair." I say, crossing my arms over my chest.

"That's not the point, honey." Mom says and I roll my eyes. Silence fills the room.

"So, she's the queen." I say, breaking the silence. "So what?"

"She's the queen of Arkala, Sydney." Dad says.

"So? Why are you telling me this, and why did you tell me that Aunt Genevieve was dead, just because she was some queen?" I say.

"We thought it'd be best to wait until your seventeenth, and we did, but your Aunt Gen passed away today."

"Uh huh......"

"And there are no other people who could step into her position." Mom says.

"Why can't you? You're her sister." I say.

"My point exactly." Dylan says and I stare at him.

"I told you, Dylan, and Sydney, it's because....." Mom bites her bottom lip. "Because I chose to lead a normal life, but my sister chose to stay and act as queen."

"And why can't you just go back and say that you've changed your mind?" I say.

"Because I already signed a contract. Saying that I wouldn't step in as queen. But what I didn't sign was you."

"What? What about me?" I ask.

"I never signed saying that said that you weren't going to step in as queen." Mom says. My jaw drops open.

"W-what?"

"We know it's a surprise-"

"What?! You come and tell me today that Aunt Gen wasn't dead but she died today, and that she's the queen of some place and now you want me to step into that position?!"

"Syd, calm down-"

"No." I snap and storm upstairs into my room, and I slam the door behind me. "Ugh!" I say as I jump onto my bed, on my back. I was thinking of face planting on my bed but then my make up would get over it so.....

How could my life turn so different on my seventeenth birthday? I didn't want or mean for any of this to happen.

"Please welcome, the queen of Arkala." A voice booms as I walk down the cobble stairs and everyone starts to clap. I have a long, peachy flowing dress on, and some sparkly heels.

"She shall now make a speech." A voice says.

"Thank you everyone, for coming to my engagement party. This is my fiancé, Ryder." I say, looking at Ryder standing next to me. Then I turn back to the audience, and then turn back to Ryder, but this time, he's not alone. I see Kara, my best friend with him and I frown. Then I see Ryder putting an arm around her waist. He says something to her then wraps his arms around her, and they start kissing.
