Arkala's Princess
Chapter 27
"Sydney." Kyle says over the phone.
"Yeah?"
"Can we meet up?"
"Um, yeah. Sure." I say, sitting up from my bed.
"Cool, I'll pick you up in ten?"
"Yeah. I'll be ready by then."
"Okay. See you."
"Bye." I say, and hang up. Today was one of the only days I didn't have any 'princess lessons,' and it looks like I'll be spending some of my day with none other than Kyle. I get up and walk over to my wadbrobe. In the end, I decide on some high waisted black jeans, and a white top. I leave my hair wavy, and put on a thin layer of make up.
I step out of my room, and down to the entrance of the palace, and see Kyle walking up to me.
"Hey." I smile.
"Hey." He says.
"So." I say, as we walk to his car.
"So, I just wanted to, you know, hang out."
"Oh, okay. Sure."
"Yeah. So um," he says, opening the passenger door for me. I smile at his sweet gesture.
"Thank you." I say, and hop into his car. He closes the door and walks around to the driver's seat. "So where are we going?"
"Um, somewhere."
"Aw come on, tell me."
"No, you'll have to wait." He says and we drive for about five minutes in silence, when he stops the car. In the middle of nowhere. In like, a forest. He takes the key out of the ignition, and hops out. My mouth hangs open a little. "Close your mouth, Syd." He chuckles as he opens the passenger door for me. I hesitantly hop out. I follow him to the trees.
"Um." I gulp, and Kyel glances at me.
"Don't worry, I won't just kill you and leave your death to a mystery." He chuckles.
"Yeah." I say quietly, and follow him through the trees. Soon, we come to a little clearing with a cute picnic set up. There's a small lake, and it's so cute. "This is for us?" I question.
"Yep." He says, and I follow him to the picnic and we both sit down.
"Wow this is nice."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. It is." I smile at him.
***
"Oh yeah, I remember the time when you weren't looking where you were walking and then you stood on this massive puddle, remember that?" I laugh.
"That was not funny. The water came up to me ankle, no joke. My shoes were soaked."
"It was funny!" I laugh again, and we fall into a comfortable silence.
"Um, Sydney?" Kyle asks suddenly, his tone of voice turning serious.
"Yeah?"
"Um, I just.... I've been wanting to tell you this for quite some time, now."
"Um..... Okay."
"Sydney, I, I like you."
"I like you too, Kyle." I smile at him, hoping he isn't meaning what I think he is meaning. But he shakes his head and I immediately realise what he is trying to say. I shake my own head. This cannot be happening right now. This can't be happening. Are you frickin kidding me?! Oh crap crap crap crap crap crap crap.
"No, Sydney. I like like you. More than a friend."
"O-oh."
"You told me to tell the girl I like that I like them. I did." He says and I nearly slap myself in the forehead.
"K-Kyle. I-I'm sorry but, I just. I don't really like anyone at the moment, you know? And I just, I just, I'm sorry, Kyle. I think it's best, like I think it's best that we just..... That we just stay as friends for now? And maybe I'll develop feelings for you, you never know." I say really fast. And after I finish my little speech, I look over at Kyle. He just nods sadly.
"Yeah. I didn't think you liked me in that way, y'know? But I just wanted to check in case if you did."
"Kyle, I'm so sorry." I whisper.
"It's fine." He says, but I can see the hurt in his eyes.
"Kyle-" I reach out for his hand but he pulls it out of my reach.
"It's fine." He says. "Are you ready? We should go." I nod and quickly help him pack the picnic back up, and we both walk to his car and drive to Arkala in silence. He didn't open the car door for me, either. When we get to Arkala, I open the door and step out.
"Thanks for today, it was great. And I'm so sorry, Kyle." I say, and close the door, and Kyle drives away without another word. I sigh and stare at his car as it turns a corner out of sight.
"What is up with him?" A voice says behind me and I turn around to see Lyra.
"We had a.... Um, a...."
"Fight?"
"No not exactly a fight..... But he told me he liked me and I said that I kind of didn't like him back."
"Oh.... That explains it. Well you can't control how you feel against someone, you know?"
"Yeah. That's true." I sigh, and look at Lyra. "I heard you broke up with Reece."
"Yeah." She shrugs.
"Why, though?"
"I don't like him."
"But then why did you date him in the first place?" I ask.
"Because I liked him then but he..... He changed."
"Uh, huh." I say slowly. "Well anyway, I better head up. I have early morning princess lessons to attend to."
"See ya." Lyra says.
"Bye."
