Arkala's Princess

Chapter 10

"Wow, it's amazing." I say, looking out the peek hole of the plane.

"It is, isn't it? Arkala is truly beautiful." My grandma says.

"Yeah." I say.

Our plane soon lands, and we head out.

"Queen Olivia!" A voice says as soon as we walk out to the main block of the airport.

"This way! Queen Olivia!"

"Smile for our photo!" Heaps of camera flash, and Wade and a few others lead us away from the camera people and out of the airport, into a limo outside.

"Queen Olivia!"

"She's back!" People follow us, snapping pictures as we hop into the limo.

"Who's the girl?"

"Is she the new queen?"

"Queen Olivia!" The door closes and I breathe a sigh.

"Is it always like that?" I ask.

"Yes." My grandmother sighs. "Yes it is."

"Oh."

"I didn't know that there would be so many people, I retired, handing the throne over to my daughter, your Aunt Genevieve. I didn't think.... Oh goodness." My grandma says, and I don't say anything. "Sorry Sydney, I didn't know that there would be so many people here today. We'll make sure to have strict security at the palace and everything, since everyone's most likely wondering who you are."

"Yeah." I say quietly, looking out the window.

We arrive pretty quickly, and Wade opens the door, and I step out. I follow my grandma inside, and my mouth drops open. The palace, it's amazing, it's got huge marble stairs, and there is this chandelier hanging from the high ceiling.

"Sydney? This is your personal assistant, Ruby." My grandma says, making my head snap towards her.

"Nice to meet you, miss." Ruby says.

"Hello, Ruby." I say with a smile.

"I'll be showing you to your room, miss." Ruby says, and I nod.

"I'll see you soon." My grandma says, and I nod, following Ruby up the stairs.

"If you need anything, just ask me, miss." Ruby says, leading me to a room.

"Okay." I say, a bit uncomfortable on how they call me 'miss.' It feels weird.

"This will be your room. Again, ask me if you need anything, miss."

"Okay." I say. "Thank you."

"We need a dress for you." Shya says, looking through the dresses she bought with her. "For the announcement." My grandmother told me that there was an announcement thing to announce that I was the princess and that I'm the possible new queen.

"Okay." I say, walking up to her.

"How about this one, miss?" Shya asks, holding up a strapless floor length dark blue dress, with little patterns at the top of the dress.

"I'll try it on." I say. The announcement was tomorrow, and we still haven't found a dress that was perfect. I walk over to the changing room and change into the dress, and step out. When I do, both Ruby and Shya's mouths drop open. "Oh no, is it ugly on me?" I ask.

"No, miss. It looks amazing." Shya says.

"It's gorgeous on you!" Ruby agrees.

"Thank you." I say, walking over to a mirror. I look at my reflection and smile. This dress is quite pretty.

"I think you should wear that one." Shya says, and I nod.

"I think I will." I say. Shya and a few of her assistants come up to me.

"We'll just check if it fits you perfectly." Shya says. "It's a little loose around her waist, and make the bottom of the dress...." Shya says, while one of her assistants writes it down. I kind of zone out, and I look at my grandmother who is also getting fitted for a dress. At the moment she's wearing a white long sleeved floor length dress. "Okay. I think that's all." Shya says.

"Can I get changed?"

"Yes you may, miss." Shya says, and I nod before walking into the changing rooms and changing back into my shorts and a t-shirt.

"Well, that's settled then." Shya says. "I'll have this dress ready for you by tomorrow."

"Okay. Thanks Shya."

"No problem, miss." Shya says, nodding as she walks away with her assistants.

"Is there anything else I need to do today?" I ask Ruby.

"Your grandmother would like to talk to you." Ruby says, checking her watch. "Just in that room over there." Ruby points to a room.

"Okay." I say, walking into the room.

"Sydney." My grandma says when I walk in. "Take a seat."

"Hey......" I say slowly, sitting down. There is another girl around my age, maybe a little older sitting down as well, I have no idea who she is though.

"This is Lyra. Your second cousin. Lyra, this is Sydney." My grandmother introduces.

"Hey." I say.

"Hi." Lyra says. "I'm eighteen. You?"

"Seventeen." I say.

"Cool! I have the room next to yours." Lyra says.

"Oh." I say. Can this get any more awkward?

"So you're the new princess, huh?"

"Yeah.... But aren't you a princess too?"

"Yeah.... But not officially, like, I am in a way, but.... Like, you're gonna be a queen. So I guess we're princesses in a different way." Lyra says.

"Oh. I guess." I say.

"I'll leave you two to it then." My grandma stands up, walking out.

"Do you want to go horse riding? Can you horse ride?" Lyra asks.

"Me? Yeah....."

"Really?"

"Yeah. Back where I used to live, I learnt how to horse ride-" I'm stopped when my dog, Roxy runs into the room, barking.

"Is this your dog? Adorable!"

"Yeah." I say, as Roxy jumps up onto my lap.

"Oh my god, what her name?"

"Roxy." I say, as Lyra shuffles over, and strokes Roxy gently.

"Oh my god she's adorable!" Lyra squeals.

"Yeah." I say.

"Hey, I'm glad I got to know you. You're really nice. At first, I thought it was gonna be so awkward, but it wasn't really. Well, maybe it was a bit...."

"Yeah. I'm glad I got to know you too, Lyra." I smile.

"Yeah. So, are you still up for the horse ride?"

"Hell yeah." I say, giving Roxy one last pat before putting her down, and walking out of the room with Lyra.
