Arkala's Princess
Chapter 5
To say this was awkward was an understatement. We were having lasagne for dinner, all of us sitting around the dinner table, after Lisa served us our dinner. Now she's gone upstairs. Lisa lives with us, she has her own room, since she stays with us a lot being the maid, she moved in.
"Sydney, have you thought about it?" Mom asks, breaking the silence. It's been a few days since my talk with mom, and I don't know... I just.... I don't know.
"Um.... Yeah....." I trail off. Everyone looks at me expectantly. "Well.... I'm not so sure yet." I pause. "So I need to go to Arkala, right?"
"Yes, Sydney." Mom nods.
"And I need to quit school and never go again?"
"Well.... I don't think you'll be able to go to school for a while. But for a bit, we'll get your grandma to come over here and maybe teach you and get you ready for a princess and everything, and when she feels you're ready, then you'll go to Arkala. But in the meantime, you can still go to school." Mom says.
"Oh."
"But we could figure something out, you could stay in Arkala on your school breaks but we'll see." Mom says.
"Okay, um, I think....." I take a deep breath, and a good minute passes by until I answer. "Okay. I'll do it."
"What?" Dylan says.
"I said," I take another breath. "I'll do it."
"Oh, sweetie." Mom says as she comes over to me and I stand up as she embraces me in a hug. "Thank you, Sydney." Mom says after she pulls away.
"Yeah.... It's okay......" I trail off slowly. I wasn't really sure of what to say right now.
"Are you sure about this?" Dylan asks and I look at him.
"Yeah, I guess."
"You guess?" Dylan raises an eyebrow.
"Anyway," I say, ignoring Dylan. "Where do we start?"
"I'll talk to your grandma about it." Mom says and I nod.
"Well I'll head upstairs." I say, picking up my plate, fork, and knife, rinsing it a bit in water and putting it into the dishwasher. Afterwards, I head up the stairs into my room. After I close my door, I lean against it and slowly sink down, putting my head in my hands.
I really hope this decision was the right one.

"Sydney!" My grandma comes up to me, with her arms spread wide, and when she reaches me, she embraces me into a hug and I return it with a smile. I haven't seen my grandma in a while, and I've missed her.
"Hey grandma." I say.
"Oh, you're so grown up!"
"Yeah....."
"Seventeen now! Wow you're so gorgeous!" My grandmother says and I blush a little.
"Thank you." I say.
"I moved into town. Would you like to stay with me for a while? I'll get my personal driver to drive you to school."
"Um....." I look around. My mom has just dropped me off at a cafe which was where I was supposed to meet grandma.
"Don't worry. I asked you mum and dad. They're okay with it."
"Oh. Sure." I smile.
"Let's go then. Later, we can go get your things."
