Arkala's Princess

Chapter 18

"Sydney, so are you going out with Kyle?" Ashton questions.

"Um..... No."

"But he said....."

"But I'm not going out with him." I stay sternly.

"Really? Cos Kyle seemed pretty sure you guys were dating today."

"No.... He's wrong." I say, shaking my head. Yes, I may have kissed him, he's a good kisser. But no, I'm not dating him.

"Okay.... Whatever you say, Sydney." Ashton says, unsure. "Well I better go, see ya."

"Bye." I wave, when someone clears their throat behind me. I turn around, to see my grandmother.

"Sydney Wayne." My grandmother says in a stern voice.

"Uh...... Hi."

"Sydney, don't play innocent. What was that inside?"

"Um.... It's not true. I'm not dating him."

"Really, then why, I wonder, would Prince Kyle call a party to announce something that was fake?"

"Um.... I don't know, maybe he had other things in mind....." I trail off. Like making out with me in the girls bathroom.

"Sydney, what did I tell you?"

"I told you, we're not dating."

"I wonder why he announced that in front of everyone then, hm?" My grandmother says, and I roll my eyes.

"Please believe me, I'm telling nothing but the truth."

"Sydney." My grandmother sighs. "As a princess and soon to be queen, you need to look after your image. You can't just date whoever you want, you have to think it through carefully. I don't know how you were in high school, but this isn't high school, darling. This is serious. No princess shall ever act that way."

"Yeah, okay. But I'm not dating him. I don't know why he said that."

"Are you sure you have no idea?"

"Um.... Yeah." I shrug.

"Sydney, what happened between you two?"

"Nothing, grandmother." I mutter.

"Sydney, don't speak to me like that. Princesses never speak like that. You must have your chin up, keep a good posture, and talk clearly. No muttering."

"That's not what we were talking about. Besides, nothing happened. We just kissed."

"Sydney!" My grandmother says sternly and I roll my eyes.

"What, you saw me, remember?"

"Was that the only time your lips touched his?"

"Yeah........?"

"Sydney, please, be sure with your answers and don't trail off, it isn't formal whatsoever." My grandmother says and I groan. Why does she have to correct me with everything I do? "So did you kiss him, recently?"

"N-no."

"You don't sound sure, dear."

"Well maybe I did kiss him but it didn't mean anything. I didn't like him. He didn't like me. So we just kissed, it wasn't really a huge deal."

"So are you saying you have no feelings for this boy?" My grandmother asks.

"No, I don't. Don't worry about it, grandma." I mutter and hop into the limo, rolling my eyes.
