Arkala's Princess
Chapter 22
I slip on the dress Shya had gotten ready for me. It's a blue floor length dress with the top bit of the dress with diamond studs in.
I glance in the mirror one last time, and touch my hair which has been curled, and I've got the perfect amount of make up on. I walk out of my room, and walk down the stairs.
"Miss, your grandmother has asked me to ascort you to the dining table." Ruby comes up to me and I nod, following her. "Prince Kyle and the Queen and King of Icelea are on their way, they have nearly arrived, in fact. I just got in contact with their personal assistants. They should be here in about," Ruby glances at her watch as we walk. "Five minutes."
"Okay." I say as we arrive at the dining table which has been laid out all nice. I take a seat where Ruby told me to, and look around.
"Sydney." I hear my grandmother's voice and look towards their direction. She's standing in the doorway, in a red floor length dress.
"Grandmother." I stand up. My grandmother has told me how I should act when someone walks into the dining room and all that jazz in which I have to do, because if I don't, the result of that would just be more boring stuff about my grandma blabbing on and on about stuff which she has already told me.
"Very nice. My teaching has paid off, hasn't it?" My grandmother smiles and I smile back in return. "Take a seat, darling. They should be here soon." My grandmother says and I sit as she sits down as well. "So. How is everything?"
"Um, it's good."
"How are you finding all this? Is it hard, easy?"
"Um, it's okay. Like, I don't regret it, because it's in my blood to take this role." I say and my grandmother nods.
"Very well said, dear."
"The king, queen and the prince of Icelea are here." Ruby pops her head through the door and my grandmother nods. I hear voices and they come nearer, nearer, and nearer.
And I stand up when I see them walk in through the door. I first see a woman, which I'm guessing is Kyle's mum, the queen of Icelea. She has dark blonde hair which is nearly put up into a bun, and she's wearing a very elegant white dress. She smiles brightly when she sees my grandmother, also giving me a smile. Next through the door is the king of Icelea. He has chocolate brown hair just like Kyle's and he has on a black suit, following his wife towards my grandmother. My grandma and the Queen of Icelea kiss each other on the cheek, and that's when Kyle walks in. He's wearing a tux with a black bow, he makes eye contact with me and I give him a small smile after looking back down at the floor again.
"Oh, Sydney! So nice to meet you, my darling!" I look towards the woman, and she embraces me into a hug. I hug back awkwardly.
"Nice to meet you too, your highness."
"Call me Emma." She says, and I nod.
"Nice to meet you, Sydney." The man says, and I smile.
"Pleasure." I say and everyone takes their seats.
***
"I've heard that you two are close. You two run along." Emma says and I roll my eyes at the ground. She's treating us like freaking children.
Kyle and I silently walk to the huge lounge area. I reluctantly sit on the couch.
"So did you lose your phone or something?" Kyle speaks up and I look at him.
"What do you mean?"
"Well you didn't seem to be answering your phone." Kyle says, looking at the ground.
"Oh." I look at the ground. "Oh." I say again, remembering that I had ignored him. "Oh I'm sorry, I must've..... I don't know why I didn't hear you sorry."
"But that's funny, because it said you were active on Facebook." Kyle says, beating around the bush. I roll my eyes.
"I was on my MacBook."
"Why were you ignoring me, Sydney?" He says softly, making eye contact with me.
"What?" I whisper.
"I really want to make this work. For us. I'll do anything I need to. Just tell me what I need to do."
"Kyle, I...." I trail off, in lost of words. "I just.... You can't. You can't do anything. I just, you're a nice guy, Kyle. I just..... Maybe you're just not the right guy.... For me."
"How can I become that guy?"
"I just.... I don't know, I just don't feel things towards you. I'm sorry, Kyle. I just....." I sigh. "I'm sorry."
"Sydney, please, let's just sort this out. Let's start over. Start fresh."
"Kyle, it's too late. If you change yourself, and if I fall for you, I'll be falling for someone who's not you. I just.... I just don't think we should continue what we did." I say softly, looking at him face. He has a disappointed look on his face, and I feel so bad that I can't do anything that will help him in any way.
"I.... I liked you. A lot. And I really wanted this to work out for us."
"Yeah." I say quietly.
"Kyle? Sydney? Could you two please come back to the dining room?" My grandmother says and I get up silently and take my seat back at the dining table. "We have been talking a lot recently. And it is expected of you both to be king and queen of Arkala and Icelea. But we've been talking. And we came up with an idea."
"Yes, and you see, we were discussing a few things about you." Kyle's mum/queen of Icelea/Emma continues. "I hear you two are quite fond of each other, and we were just discussing some wedding plans."
