Xavier's POV:

"What are you doing here," she says hushly, shutting the door.

"What the fuck are you doing here?" I say, in shock.

"We are doing a raid! Why are you here?"

"To save these kids," I say looking around at the scared group of kids. "It's okay guys. You can trust her."

They all nod, but huddle behind me. Almost using me as a shield to create some distance from Nova. They still were scared, and so was I, but for different reasons.

"Guys are you out?" I say through my earpiece.

"We got out as soon as we heard the cars drive up. Are you not out yet?" Says dad, annoyed.

"I'll be there soon," I say.

I then look up at the worried Nova. Her fingers are twitching slightly as she walks backward quietly.

"Xavier I'll take the kids. You get out now. I don't want Oliver to find you here," she says.

"Why the fuck is Oliver here?"

"He's my partner now," she sighs.

"The fuck he is," I say, my eyebrows furrowing.

"No swearing," says the boy with no name.

"Sorry kiddo," I say.

But why the fuck was this annoying ass bitch partnering up with Nova. I didn't know he was a detective as well.

"I'm not leaving these kids here," I state.

"What? You can't take them, Xavier. The Swat team, Kieran, and everyone else are expecting me to find these kids since I told them they'd be here. They'll be safe I promise."

"No they won't Nova. They'll just go into the system, and we know how bad it can be."

"Xavier—"

"No," I interrupt her. "I'm keeping these kids."

She looks at her watch then at me, then back to her watch. Her mind was running a mile a minute looking back and forth at me, and the watch.

"Fuck Xavier," she says harshly. "Leave now then," she says.

She then leaves the room, and I can hear her lie about what she saw in this room. I immediately start leading the kids through the vent I used to enter the building.

"I'm sorry, I thought they'd be here," she lies.

"You can't always be right," assures Kieran.

Thank you Nova.

"What. the. fuck," says Ayla looking at all the kids huddled in my car.

"What?"

"Nunca en mi vida he visto a un líder de una organización conocida hacer algo así (Never in my life have I seen a leader of a well known organization do some shit like this)," grumbles dad. "I said for you to save them, not take them in as your own! What are you? Nanny McPhee?"

"Shut up," I say sternly, glaring at him. "They can hear you."

Dad's jaw tenses before grabbing mom's hand, and leading her inside the building. He was pissed, just I didn't give a flying fuck. I'm not letting them go into a system that will most likely just send them into fucked up group homes.

"Good on you Xavier," says Santiago, patting my shoulder before walking into our building as well.

Ayla looks at me for the first time with kind eyes. She then opens the car door, and extends her hand for the kids to take.
