February 13th, 1979 - Shanghai
Once again, Nephera found herself on the other side of the globe, standing in front of the fortune teller from Mystery. Once a week, she'd apparate there and the fortune teller would sit her down and tell her to 'let go of the control she had over her magic in order to be able to control the Tenebris wand'. In the beginning, the brunette had laughed in the other witch's face, for it sounded profoundly ridiculous to her.
However, week by week, she found that the more she let go of the strings that surround her magic, the more easy it was for her. She didn't need a wand anymore, she didn't even need to more a finger, all she needed was to think of a spell, focus on her target, and just like that, the person was on the ground, wailing in pain or dead.
"Very well, Ms Winchester," mused the Fortune Teller as Nephera shot a target that was behind her, not even turning to look at it, "Are you now seeing what I was talking about?"
                              "I dare say I do,"
"Magic is chaos, the Tenebris wand provides a way to wield said chaos into a weapon, a powerful one at that. But first, you had to let the madness unfold," she explained further, "Now, grasp the wand,"
For the first time in her life, Nephera did as she was told. Wrapping her fingers around the wand, she felt the same feeling of almost suffocating power overrun her, just like any other time she held it. Now, though, now that feeling seemed to merge with her instead of take over her, as she and the wand became one, "Close you eyes, and let the magic flow," instructed the white-eyed woman
It was a feeling like none other. She felt as though her soul had left her body, and was now residing in a plain different than that of reality. As if she could've simply said the word, and the entirety of the world would fall to her feet, as if she was the only thing standing between the wand and total and complete destruction.
"Excellent, Nephera," the voice of the other witch in the room snapped her out of her thoughts, "I believe my work here is done,"
When the brunette opened her eyes again, she was no longer standing in the same room she was standing before. Or rather, she was, but the room itself, as well as the entire building, had collapsed to the ground in a heap of ashes and smoke. The rest of the street seemed to be in the same predicament, "I did this," she gasped, but she wasn't scared, at least not of what she'd done
No, Nephera was scared for a whole other reason. The excitement she felt terrified her, she knew the effect Dark Magic had on people, the way it corrupted them, bent their ideals and turned them into power-hungry individuals with no shred of self-control.
Letting go of the wand, she tucked it back into her pocket, "I need not say that you should use it scarcely," spoke up the Fortune Teller again, "Your are powerful enough without it, do not let the temptation wash over you,"
"I know," nodded the younger witch
The Fortune Teller gave a soft smile, and extended her arm, "Then I suppose this is good-bye. I stand by what I said that day in Mystery, you will do a great deal for the Wizarding World in the future,"
At one desperate attempt to make sense of what had been predicted for her a year ago, Nephera spoke up, "Loss came true," she said, "You had predicted loss, heartbreak, and betrayal,"
The Fortune Teller laughed, "I am only here to tell you what the cards show. It is not up to me, or you, to guess and interpret them,"
With a flash of white, the fortune teller was gone, and Nephera was left alone in the now-demolished streets in Shanghai. The authorities would be arriving soon, probably to try and figure out the source of the damage, so Nephera snapped her fingers and disappeared from view as well.
