October 25th, 1980 - Auror Office
Sirius hated being away from Nephera, the paranoia, the stress, the constant alarm bells in his head that kept telling him she wouldn't be there when he got home, he hated it more than anything, especially after what had happened with Castiel last month. Although, he had to admit that returning to work wasn't such a bad thing after all. Being able to actively contribute to fighting the war and doing something about the current situation certainly beat sitting at home all day watching his girlfriend read the same books over and over again.
He knew it was killing her inside, being confined at home with nothing to do. She couldn't work, she couldn't go on Order missions... Part of that was through her own choice, the Order missions at least. He could see it clear as day, Nephera still hadn't healed from her obliviation, not that he expected her to have. He could see how she jumped at every loud noise, woke up every night from nightmares that she was still working with Riddle. She was scared, terrified, in fact, that if she went back on a mission, it would happen again.
That fact only frustrated her further. If there was something Nephera hated, it was feeling that way and having everyone else know about it too. She thought it made her less than, it made her inferior in some way to simply be human and have human emotions. He hated that side of her, hated it with a burning passion for the way it kept torturing his witch.
An Auror he didn't recognise (many were hired during his leave of absence, he never bothered to learn any of their names) knocked on the door, "Black," he called to him, "Moody wants to see you, his office,"
Sirius nodded, not taking his eye off the paperwork in front of him as he finished the final details of it. The newbie left as soon as he delivered the message, unwilling to spend more time than he had to in a room with the infamous Sirius Black.
The way to Moody's office was a familiar one, and Sirius shuddered upon thinking about the last time he travelled it, running through in a desperate attempt to get to the floo and get Nephera back "You asked for me?" he said, not bothering to knock or ask for permission to sit down
If Moody wanted to say anything about the blatant display of disrespect, he didn't, "Dumbledore has asked for you and Nephera tonight," he handed him a piece of folded parchment, "This location. I don't need to remind you that missions are on a need-to-know basis,"
Sirius nodded, moving to take the parchment from Moody before the older wizard pulled it back, "I don't know what Dumbledore wants, but you know Nephera, she'll get sucked into those games she plays again," he said with urgency, "Don't let her get too far into them. You know as well as I do she's not ready to jump back into the game yet, she hasn't healed fully from the obliviation,"
"I don't need anyone telling me what to do with my girlfriend, thank you very much," snapped the younger wizard
"You're not the only one that cares for her here, Black," snapped back Moody
Sirius blew out a breath through his nose, and nodded in surrender, grabbing the paper and leaving without saying another word. He knew he was being unfair, Madeye cared for Nephera to the greatest extent that his personality would allow him to, he was just trying to help. But Sirius's patience had been wearing very, very thin these days.
He went back to his desk, aiming to finish the last of his reports before he realized that there was no reason to even try, there was no way he'd be able to focus.
He didn't trust Dumbledore, not in what his intentions were, and certainly not with Nephera and her safety. The old wizard didn't like his girlfriend, and Sirius would be damned if he let anything happen to her, "Pads," came James's voice, the curly-haired wizard entering his office
