When you had first seen Karen, you found her scurrying off from a trash can. You knew of the creatures that lingered in strange places and consumed flesh, but you knew how to protect yourself. You had followed her to a makeshift shelter, leaving a couple of gifts at the entrance. Antibiotics and food. You came back every day, bringing different things to give her until one day she decided to face you. When you first met her, she started to scream and tried to scare you off. Waving her arms and sputtering words like a spitting alley cat. However, you refused to leave her. You persisted to keep coming back with gifts. You remembered the day her friend left, the memory fresh in your mind.

"(Y/N)." Karen kept her coat tight around her form as she stood at the door of your rv, shivering as the first winter frost. "Yes?" You turned around, looking at her with curiosity. You were making her pumpkin bread with a chocolate swirl. "Can... Can I stay with you? It's getting so cold..." Karen mumbled, still standing at the door. You smiled, setting the bowl down and opening the door. "Get in here, Karen. You can stay with me all you like." You gave her a smile and brought her in.

Now, you had left the town and Karen traveled with you everywhere. You held her close, hugging her tightly. "You smell good today, like vanilla. Did you take your medicine?" You asked softly, handing her the powerful antibiotics and antidepressants. "I will now." Karen smiled and took the pills, quickly swallowing them. You also gave her vitamins throughout the day to boost her immune system.

Today was your first year anniversary of knowing each other and you had plans for her. Giving Karen her first set of vitamins, you made your way to the driver's seat and drove off to a big city. You wanted to take her shopping, take her to a nice dinner, perhaps a movie. You wanted her to understand just how much you cared.

Karen looked around, holding your hand tightly. She was brimming with excitement and curiosity. She was looking around like a child in a store of magic, innocent at heart. "Do you like it?" You asked, gently playing with your wine glass. "I do! I really do, this is amazing. I've never been to a place like this." Karen whispered, excitement in her voice. "It's the anniversary of when we met." You gave a soft laugh, knowing it was cheesey to mark an odd day to always be remembered.

Karen tilted her head, remembering back to the gifts of supplies she needed, how when Mickey took the pills you showed up. She saw what he turned into, how her heart broke into millions of pieces. But then, you whisked her away from all that, you took her to places she dreamed of seeing. You allowed her to paint every inch of the RV's interior, got her supplies and canvases. She was by far the most active she had ever been. Blinking back to the present moment, Karen nodded and smiled. "It is." Her voice cracked as affection seeped into her tone. "I need to tell you something, Karen. It's really important." Your tone didn't shift, a pang of fear made her blood run cold.

"I love you, Karen. I love you so much and I want you to keep traveling with me."

"I love you too. I'll never stop traveling with you."
