Wilhemina heard the explosions of the fireworks, body going rigid. It was the Fourth of July and every year it was the same. Loud fireworks, the smell of cooking meat, and all she wanted to do was curl up and hide. Her tail was tucked between her legs, shaking in bed. She heard the living room TV turn off. Venable couldn't help but follow after you with some hesitation, whimpering.
You were in the basement watching a movie to get away from the noise outside, the fireworks overpowering the audio. You heard a soft thumping upstairs, seeing a flash of ginger fur. "Mina?" You asked, feeling her launch herself under your arm. She was shaking horribly, the sound of muffled fireworks having scared her. You gently stroked her side, feeling her shaking slowly absolve into nothing. "You're safe." You whispered, her head resting on your thigh.
Venable wagged her tail a bit, smiling as you started to scratch between her ears. "I love you." You whispered, Venable leaning into you. When there was break in the fireworks, you guided Venable upstairs and got into the backyard. You put plugs in her ears, letting her watch the fireworks without the loud noises.
Wilhemina let out a loud howl, from the vibration she could tell you were howling with her.
