SA OPISINA ni Helise nakatayo si Emil sa harapan niya, naupo naman si Helise sa swivel chail. Tumayo na rin si Chesca malapit kay Emil. Nakatingin ito sa kanya na para bang nagtataka ang kaibigan kung bakit dala niya ang secretary ng asawa. Nilapag ni Helise ang profile ni Barbara sa lamesa.
“Tell me who is she?” tanong niya.
Tumango naman si Emil. “She’s one of the people of the late owner of the farm, when I went there she is already close at the chairman, the chairman said that Miss Barbara helped him a lot while he was at the farm.”
Barbara.... Barbara.... Really, a familiar name.
“When the chairman was shot and badly injured, Miss Barbara went with me at the hospital and wait there until the chairman was in stable condition.”
Yes, Tristan mentioned that he was badly injured.
“Kasama niyo rin siya nang umalis kayo ng Batangas?” parang nagkaroon ng tinik na nakabara sa lalamunan ni Helise nang tanungin niya iyon.
“Opo.” sagot nito. “She was the chairman’s only friend in Batangas, Miss Barbara comforted the chairman while he was at his downfall, the chairman was too afraid to meet you because of disappointments he had brought but Miss Barbara pursue the chairman to comeback home.”
Bakit nila sinama ang dalaga nang umalis sila ng Batangas? Eventhough she was a friend but that’s too much....
“The chairman almost killed himself.” patuloy ni Emil.
Natigilan si Helise, hindi iyon nabanggit ng asawa sa kanya!
“What did you say?!” halos pabulong pero may diin sa pagbigkas ni Helise.
“Miss Barbara talked to the chairman and stopped him from doing that. The chairman owed his life to Miss Barbara.”
Tristan almost did that?! Ganoon ito nagsisisi dahil lang sa perang nawala? Hindi ganoon kababa si Helise para sisihin ang asawa kahit na gaano pa kalaking pera ang mawala sa kanila!
“You can go...” aniya halos walang lakas ang boses dahil sa nalaman.
Mabilis naman na lumapit sa kanya si Chesca at inabutan ng tubig. “Are you okay, Helise?” this time Chesca dropped the formality, she was so concerned at Helise. “Maybe Tristan was depressed kaya niya nagawa iyon at kaya siguro hindi niya nabanggit sayo ay nag aalala siya na baka mapaano ka.” patuloy nito.
“Chesca.... I think I failed as a partner.” aniya. “I’m the one who failed him kaya naisipan niyang gawin iyon.”
“Of course not Helise!”
She asked Chesca to observe Barbara’s work for the mean time. As of now Helise was too busy to check on her and personaly thank her for all the helped she has given to her husband.
Hindi na rin niya binanggit kay Tristan ang siniwalat sa kanya ni Emil sa opisina nang makauwi silang mag asawa sa bahay, nagpahinga sila at siniguro ni Helise na ang lahat ng pangangailangan ng asawa ay naibibigay niya.
Her poor husband....
She will make sure that Tristan will never think of suicide again.
Tatlong araw ang nakalipas bago personal na nakita ni Helise si Barbara, she was observing their employees that time nang magawi siya sa may bandang front desk. Ilang hakbang ba ang layo niya pero natanaw na niya ang isang babae sa front desk. She was indeed tall, her Filipina tan-skinned was standing out, she has a perfect smile like she was a model of toothpaste brand. Her eyes was big and round matching her long eye lashes, she looks like a Filipina beauty queen. And she’s only twenty?
