Y/n's pov
"Were you seriously about to sneak out at this time of night", my father snapped. "I wasn't, I had to go to the bathroom", I lied. "With your bow and arrow", he questioned. "I have to be armed in case something happens you know", I explained. "You really think i'm that stupid Y/n", my father sneered. "I wasn't going to go back up there dad", I snapped glaring up at him. "Why can't you get it, it's dangerous up there", he snapped. "I'm careful, dad you can't just keep me trapped down here for the rest of my life", I replied. "I can and I will", he said. "You just don't get it, they're not all bad", I sighed. "There is more bad than good Y/n, i'm not going to let you get killed", he stated grabbing my shoulders. "Not all the time dad", I snapped shrugging his hands off my shoulders.
"You're acting foolish like your mother", he sighed to himself. "Wanting to go explore the undercity, it's dangerous here", he said "I'm trying to make sure you don't get killed like your mother did, '' he added shaking his head. I bawled my fist glaring at him.
"Mother was not foolish, she SHE WAS TRYING TO GET AWAY FROM YOU", I screamed at him. It was quiet after that then a smack sound filled the air. My head was now facing the right, looking at the wall. Did my father slap me? I slowly looked back at my father whose hand was still raised in the air.
He let out pants as he stared at me, eyes wide as saucers. I shook my head backing away slowly. I blinked away the tears then turned around sprinting out of the room.
"Y/N COME BACK", my father screamed, but I just kept running. I ran down the long stairs inside the trees into the open area where the huge exit was. I ran out of the tree dashing towards the exit. I cried my eyes out as I did. I ran into the entrance of the pathway that led to the undercity.
I stood in front of the gate that surrounded Caitlyn's home. I climbed onto the gate then hopped over. I landed as quietly I could and began to sneak towards where Caitlyn's room was. I walked quietly as I could towards her window. I ducked down when I got close to her window. I peeked into the room to see she was up. She was sitting at her desk writing away at something. I knocked on her window to gain her attention. She looked at the window alarmed, then confused when she saw me. She got up and quickly walked towards the window, opening it.
"What are you doing here", she whispered. "I just wanted to come see you", I mumbled. She was about to say something, but stopped. "Do you want to come in", she asked. I nodded my head. She backed away to let me climb inside.
"What happened to your face", she asked alarmed. "I'm fine, I just ran into something", I answered quickly holding the side of my face with my hand. "You're a terrible liar you know", she sighed making me chuckle slightly. "I know", I mumbled. "You want to sit down", she asked aiming at her bed. "Oh yeah sure', I replied taking a seat on her bed. She sat down beside me. It was an awkward quiet soon after that.
"You're not going to tell me what happened are you", she sighed. "...No I can't", I mumbled. "Well is there anything I could do or", she asked making me look at her. "....Are we friends", I asked. "Of course we are! Why would you ask that", she replied. "I don't know, it makes me feel better when you say we are", I said. "You're a weird one you know that", she giggled. "I know", I smiled.
"We may be from different places Y/n, but there is no doubting it, we will always be friends forever and always", she stated with a small smile. I felt my heart skip a beat when she said that. "Yeah, we'll be friends no matter what", I replied. She stared into my eyes for a while then shook her head.
"Did you hear about that explosion that happened a couple of days ago, i'm pretty sure I told you about it", she asked. "Yeah I heard about it, my father has been more strict ever since it happened", I replied rubbing the back of my neck. "Is he an enforcer?", she asked making me shake my head. "No, he's just worried about me that's all", I sighed. "Well he shouldn't worry about it, the enforcers will take care of it", she replied. "Yeah they will", I said staring down at my hands.
"What's your father like", she asked. "He's annoying sometimes, but he's strong and observant", I answered. "He knows what to do to protect my family, even if it means we hate him in the process", I added.
"Hold your breath, Y/n", my father whispered as I held the string and arrow. I stared intensely at the target not too far away from me. "Be one with the wind, feel it in your bones and soul let it speak to you", my father whispered. I closed my eyes waiting to feel any wind. I felt a small breeze send a chill up my spine slightly. I opened my eyes aiming my bow to the right by a millimeter then released the bow. It went soaring through the air. It impaled itself close to the center of the target. I lowered my bow looking up at my dad who smiled down at me.
"That's my girl", he said rubbing the top of my head. "Ow ow ow stop it hurts", I hissed. "You're braids still tight", he asked making me nod my head. "How many times do I have to tell her not to put it in too tight", my dad fussed to himself. "Grandma said it'll loosen up", I stated. "But it hurts though doesn't it", he asked. "Yes, but I have to endure it so I can be strong like you", I stated. "Baby no", he sighed squatting down to be eye level with me.
"You don't have to be numb to pain to be strong", he stated. "Emotions are what makes us strong and keeps us alive", he explained. "And it keeps us human", he added. "Don;t you ever forget that", he finished. "I won't, ever", I replied. He smiled at me then placed his forehead against mine. I closed my eyes doing the same to him. He opened his eyes standing up.
"Now the last one back has to put medicine on grandma's back", my father said then took off running. "WHAT", I shouted then began rushing after him. "IT'S UNFAIR YOU HAVE LONGER LEGS", I cried trying to catch up with him.
"I need to go apologize", I stated standing up. "Apologize for what", Caitlyn asked standing up as well. I turned towards her, pulling her into a hug. She froze as I did. "Thank you Cait", I said. She slowly wrapped her arms around me. "Anytime", she mumbled. I broke the hug smiling at her then sped walked towards the window.
"See you tomorrow", she asked. "Akways", I replied then climbed out and rushed back home.
I stood wide eyed in front of the now destroyed entrance to the secret pathway. I rushed inside stepping over the rubble. I ran quickly down the path. I skidded to a stop when I exited the pathway to see my home, the great tree, engulfed in flames.
