Music for the Chapter: The Heart Wants What It Wants by Selena Gomez
Shukracharya. The son of Maharishi Bhrigu, a highly learned sage, economist, scholar, expert in machine science, weapon science, astras, astronomy, the deity of the planet Venus and the Guru of Asura. Even with all his achievements, he still tries to look for something he hasn't found yet.
An heir to his legacy.
To a Rishis, the heir of his legacy isn't his child. It is someone who can carry on the name of his Guru to great heights and reach the greatest heights. Take on all the achievements of his Guru and bring glory to him as a teacher. That is an heir.
I saw a bow in his study. I picked it up to check it. It was a wooden carved bow.
"It belonged to Drona," Mama answered. "He was a friend of mine. So, he carved a bow and gifted it to me."
Dronacharya?? Wow...
"Tell me something, Mama, you have Maharaj Bali as your student. He's the perfect heir to your legacy then why do you still desperately look for an heir?"
He sat on his chair. A throne-like chair. He sighed.
"From a young age, I have been achievement-driven. I learned from Maharishi Angira at first but then he was quite partial to Brihaspati. I felt like I wasn't learning as much as I should due to him being partial till Brihaspati had learned the vidya. Being an achievement-driven person, I left the place and joined Maharishi Gautam's gurukul. I learned from there. It is an effect of being Bhargava that you only look at yourself in the achievements you have made. Greatness pushes us to only go up greater and greater. Even with how powerful the asuras get, they never achieve that 'greatness'. What do you talk about when you die? When it is all done and dusted, what do you have in your name? What is your legacy? Just dust? Just failures? That is not what I want to be known for."
He was scared of being labeled a failure when his legacy is checked. He put his head on the table. His hair was greying with his worries. Although his harsh exterior, he was a major softy on the inside. His greatest fear was failing. When the pralay arrives and claims his life, he wishes to leave a mark on the creation's greatest memory lane. His name is to be there in golden letters like that of Saptarishis. Only I wish that he can understand that he is already known to be one of the greatest teachers. A teacher who goes through the greatest troubles to make his students worthwhile.
Krishna in Bhagwad Gita says "Among all the asuras, I am Shukra". Bhishma was his student. He was the son of Ganga.
I smiled. I took off the bun over his hair and massaged his head.
"W.. what are you doing?" He asked taken aback.
"Nana always says that my fingers have magic. I always massage his hair when he's a little too tired. You seem to always take on things that are heavy on your soul. Sometimes it is good to let go of the weight on the shoulder and just relax."
