When I returned back to the mansion, I saw Mama in his study.
"Everything okay?" I asked.
"Sit." He told me. "As of now, you have done the astra training well. Now, we are going to go ahead."
"Mama, you seem really tensed. What is wrong?"
"Alaknanda, I think Virat will soon find out. Nandini would any day tell him."
"It is alright. I'm not scared, mama. Don't worry about me."
"Alaknanda, if you want, I'll take you back to Earth right now. We'll take you back to Gurukul where you'll be safe."
I saw fear on his face. For the first time, I had seen that. I put a hand on his shoulder.
"Well, if my Guru has to worry about my safety then it means that I've not really learnt well. Why do you worry so much? I'm stronger than I seem. I am my father's child. My mother's child. A lion cannot father a lamb. A lion's cub has to be a lion, mama. A tiger's cub has to be a tiger. If a tiger lives in fear of the prey's horns, how will it learn hunting? If I start fearing Virat's threats, how will I defeat him?"
He sighed. "I think I should take you to Gurukul. Guru Vashista will surely find a way to keep you safe."
"What is the thing you're really scared of, mama? For the past six months, I have been with you. Yet, you've never been worried. Why has it changed now?"
Mama sighed and held his head. "I used to think that I can control him. I can bring him back to the right path. I used to have that hope for all this time. Now, I have lost that hope. I don't think I can control him anymore. He's far out of my control now. He's in Diti's control. Exactly as Diti says, he will do. Though I doubt how far he'll listen to Diti. I worry that the length Diti is pushing him to, even she cannot bring him back from there. Even she will lose control on him. That is how far Diti is pushing him."
"Diti? Virat's mother. Maharishi Kashyap's wife?"
"Yes. Your nana's daughter. Diti's jealousy with Aditi runs deep. It makes her think that she has to rise above Aditi. It pushes her to bring that rivalry into her children. "You are Vishnu's child, Alaknanda. Count how many asuras have been killed by him. How many of them were Diti's sons? Don't underestimate the power hatred can have."
