Bumaba ako dahil dinner time na. Tatanungin ko lang si Erwin kung anong oras sila kumakain. For sure, we won't join the family.

"So, when do we eat?" Tanong ko rito nang makita ko ito sa may main door.

"We can eat after the family-"

"Join us."

Sabay kaming napalingon sa baritonong boses na nagsalita. The governor, dressed in a white short-sleeved polo shirt and slacks, was standing behind them.

"No, I'll just join Erwin-"

"Come."

Erwin nudged me to just go with the governor. As I walked beside him, I noticed that he was a few inches taller than me. Maybe 6'1"? So he's above average. I can also smell his perfume. Armani.

Mas nagsi-sink in sa akin kung gaano ito kalayo sa stereotype ng pulitiko sa isip ko. He's very neat looking, formal, at parang napakadamot ng ngiti. It doesn't bother me. Mas madamot ako sa ngiti. I actually forgot when was the last time I smiled genuinely.

"Is this just for introductory purposes? Because really, it's fine with me to eat with the guys."

"You will start eating with us. Para masanay ka na. Baka kapag may bisita, mapansin nila na hindi ka malapit sa amin."

"Uhm... I didn't get what you said." I better learn the language fast. I'm getting tired of this.

He put his hands in his pocket and repeated what he said. "You have to get used to interacting with my family."

I shrugged. "No issues on my end."

Tahimik na kaming naglakad papunta sa dining room. His parents are there and even Kiana who smiled at me when I saw her.

"You're going to eat with us?"

"Your Kuya asked me to join you guys."

"Can you sit beside me?"

"Kiana, she will sit beside your brother." Saway ng ina rito.

"Okay."

Inunahan kong hilahin ang upuan ko bago pa iyon mahawakan ni Kylo. He's a gentleman, that's good but he doesn't really have to show it to me. In my line of work, there's no man nor woman. You won't be accused of being gay if you punched a woman. 

He looked shocked but he recovered quickly. He sat beside me. I was about to get some food when Inocencia started to pray.

Damn it, I'm hungry. I can eat all of these food in front of  me.

When the prayer was done, we started getting some food. When all of us started eating, that's when I started eating. I may be a bitch but at least my manners know when to show up.

Napatigil lang ako sa pagsubo nang mapansin na nakatingin na sa akin ang lahat ng tao sa mesa.

"Wh-what...why are you looking at me?"

"Nothing. Uhm, do you want some more?" 

I smiled at Herminio, Kylo's father. "Sure thing! Are you all done eating?"

No one nodded but I can see that their plates are already clean and the spoon and fork are arranged on the side now. Nakatingin lang ang mga ito sa akin.

"More for me then." I said.

When I finally cleared my plate and the other plates, I smiled at the people I was with at the table. It was the usual formal smile I show to everyone.
