Waking late into the early afternoon I jump out of my bed not even really thinking as pure excitement raced through my body. Though I was slightly nervous since today I would be meeting what is considered to be the most aggressive dragon. But my will to live left me long ago so I really don't mind.

The hike up to the small glade didn't hurt my lungs as much as it would've almost a week ago. The route made in my mind was memorized completely. My feet crunching against rocks, my hands scratching against the boulders I needed to climb. The whole process takes almost half an hour; longer with a barrel of slugs to previously gain the favor of an animal smarter than me. My nose and lungs inhale the scent of pine and my mind wanders to Hiccup.

More specifically the moment from last night; I'm sure to him that the 'moment' I had was nothing to him. His mind completely encapsulated by my best friend the village beauty. But the way our breathing synced and how I felt his hip bones made my ears red once again. He was just so. Close. Having affection that I like is foreign to me; sure all of my friends and I share hugs but for me it's not comfortable. The way I force myself to smile and bear their arms around me makes me feel sick inside. But with Hiccup it was different; the way his hand was put over my mouth, his smell, his closeness. It made me feel so comfortable I almost had forgotten the situation.

But of course, I can't forget. Just like I can't forget that he's completely in love with my best friend. Once somebody falls for Astrid that's it, I become the weird best friend she brings with her everywhere. Even if I do have feelings for Hiccup I'm not sure they're real.

These are the first genuine interactions I've had with a male that I'm not immediately related to. Maybe these feelings are just because he's the first male that I have let get near me. Yeah, I think that's why I'm feeling this way.

Walking in between the trees I come into view of the dragon I know and have come to care for. Her violet eyes glint just right in the sun looking as clear as water. "Whiplash." I call cupping my hands around my mouth; at the sound of her given name the giant pile of metal barrels toward me at an almost alarming rate.

"Ready to go make a friend?" I question while rubbing under her chin causing her eyes to half lid. "Oh you like that?" I ask using my nails to scratch lightly while she let out a deep purr. Sadly as cute as she was I had to stop so I could climb onto her back. "Let's go." I whisper and as if on cue she opens her large wings and shoots into the air.

Wind flying through my hair I thought I felt some bugs get stuck but I just let it slide. Taking a slow breath in I exhale lightly while looking down below quickly seeing the cove. "There." I point and Whiplash shoots down unexpectedly.

Covering my mouth while screaming I don't even realize I'm not holding onto my dragon. I slowly look down and hold my nose and breath as I make harsh contact with the water. The air is knocked out of my lungs as a spiny feeling wraps around my face and I'm above water laying on the ground.

"Ouch." I cough with a small laugh at how exhilarating it was.

"And you call me reckless." I hear a low voice say and I see two sets of green eyes.

"His eyes look like yours." I say to Hiccup referring to the curious dragon who was now sniffing my hair. "Hi Toothless." I say to the dragon and he gives me a gummy smile.

"Wha- so she gets a smile and I almost die?!" Hiccup exclaims as his dragon barrels over to mine and they smell each other.

Then as if they both suddenly have all the energy in the world they're both running in a circle around each other. Making weird purring and gurgling noises as they bob their heads to each other.
