"what do you think this guy is going to make us do today?" sam asked simon who she was sitting beside. they were in history and they hated the teacher, people gossip about how he tries hitting on the other students.

"probably some 1,000 word essay about ancient shit that happened years ago." simon said, lazily.

"alright, class. today we are going to be doing projects on greek mythology." the teacher spoke.

sam rolled her eyes and looked at simon.

"close enough." simon muttered under his breath.

"i have assigned partners for each and one of you and when you hear your name, you may sit with your partner and work on it." the teacher said.

sam didn't care about the project, she just didn't want to have a partner she didn't like.

"kate, cindy. simon, tommy. samantha, deena." the teacher said.

"well, fuck." sam whispered as she saw deena approaching her.

deena gave sam a sarcastic smile and sat beside her. "let me get one thing straight. just because you hate me, it doesn't mean i'll let you distract me from my studies."

sam chuckled and shrugged her shoulders. "i don't hate you. you're just not necessarily that most likeable person."

deena scoffed, shaking her head. "i'm not a mean person, you only look at my bad actions."

"whatever. so what are we doing again?"

"greek mythology, it's what we've been learning for the last few days." deena answered, getting slightly annoyed. "you don't ever pay attention in class, do you?"

sam sighed, shaking her head. "no. i try to but i get distracted easily."

"maybe if you weren't too busy looking at me all the time you'd be able to know what we're doing." deena smiled as she pulled out her laptop.

sam was able to look at her and seeing deena smile made her feeling something. like a rush of energy and it immediately caused her to smile a bit. "right."

"so, which greek should we do?" deena asked and showed sam the choices from her laptop.

"aphrodite, goddess of sexual love and beauty. wow, how terrific." sam laughed. "let's do that bitch."

"you really wanna do this one?" deena asked, making sure sam wasn't joking.

"yeah, i mean, her description is something i'm familiar with." sam said with a smirk.

deena was confused until it all clicked. "what a mind you have, sam."

"yeah, it's a problem."

"so how was deena?" kate asked sam as the two girls walked around the school halls.

"she's fine." sam answered quietly.

"why are you acting weird?"

"i'm not."

-

"sam's actually not that bad." deena said as she opened up her locker.

"really? i was expecting something negative." cindy said, crossing her arms. sam wasn't ever really nice to anyone at all which was a huge shock.

"maybe she was just shy, that's all." deena said.

"sure but you should still be careful. at any moment she might snap and start cussing you out or something." cindy explained.

-

sam was very decisive with her decision but she decided that maybe it would be cool to ask deena to come over to her house. sure her mother is homophobic and not the nicest person to exist but she'll do what it takes to get deena in as safe as possible.

sam took a deep breath and walked towards deena with a smile. "hey, deena."

deena looked at sam as she closed her locker. "hey, sam. what's up?"

"for the project.. i was wondering if you could come over to my house? i just think it's better to get things done faster so we don't have to think about anything else."

"sure. i'll make sure to arrive on time this time." deena said.

"great. i'll text you the address."
