"you know. i never thought i'd make it this far. if it weren't for your help i don't think this project would even be finished." sam chuckled. her and deena were back again doing their project but in a more quiet and peaceful location where no one they know would find them.

"better to do things faster." deena said. "is this your first ever assignment that you'll turn in?" she said in a joking manner.

sam playfully rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "is it a bad thing if it is?"

"well, it depends."

"depends on what?"

"on what you think."

"hey, i have a question."

"what is it?"

"why are you so kind to everyone? i mean. i don't know if i'm just rude to every single person i see but you're just so different. it's like you have your own little world." sam said, placing her pencil down.

deena frowned at sam's question. "well, i can't dislike someone if there's no reason, right?" she said with a soft smile.

sam shrugged. "i guess."

"do you hate me?" deena asked all of a sudden. sam was taken aback and her breathing quickened.

"nope. i don't hate you. i don't have a reason to." sam said, slightly gritting her teeth as she spoke. "so, how's the boyfriend?"

deena had stopped writing and looked up at sam. "he's great." she answered with a forced smile.

sam sighed and gave her the look. she didn't like it when deena was lying.

"okay, fine. no, he's not great. i've been avoiding him recently and i haven't answered any of his texts. sometimes i just wonder if we're even meant to be."

"maybe he isn't the one for you. if he actually loved you, he'd trust you."

deena continued to write. "yeah. sure."

"samantha, i thought you didn't like her." simon said over the phone.

"yeah well i guess things change." sam answered. "and plus, she's not that bad."

"whatever happened to wanting to kill her with your bare hands." simon joked with a small laugh.

"that was a long time ago. and you know, i was having a hard time those days so you can't really blame me for acting like a bitch."

"have your parents come back yet?"

"nope. not a single call or text from them. i have a feeling they disowned me or some shit. i don't know what's wrong."

"you don't know why? you don't think it has something to do with you coming out?"

"i hope not. look, simon. i gotta go. i have some stuff to work on."

sam said, before hanging up and not even giving simon a chance to say anything. she has been struggling a lot with her family life ever since she came out to her parents. they weren't the most supportive to sam. all they really did was yell at her for being different and that made sam upset. and now she's wondering what made her be different. she wouldn't get an answer any time soon.
