sam left the school and just when she was about to take another step, she was dragged into the back of the building. turned out it was just deena which relieved her.

"holy shit. what are you doing?" sam asked in shock. she rubbed her arm since deena had left marks on it from grabbing her too hard.

"i was gonna talk to you after school remember?" deena mentioned. "you weren't going to get out of there that easy you know."

sam rolled her eyes with a chuckle.

"so, what are we?" deena asked.

"what do you mean?"

"like. are we together? after what happened last night?"

"i don't know, deena." sam said, sitting down on the ground as she fidgeted with her hands. her knees were up to her chest and hid her face with her arms. she'd always do that when there would be uncomfortable situations happening.

deena sighed, sitting down beside her. "you've never been in a relationship, have you?"

sam stayed silent as she tried her best not to make eye contact.

"no fucking way." deena said as she started laughing.

"what are you laughing for?" sam rolled her eyes, feeling embarrassed.

"come on, sam. don't be like that." deena reassured. "let me ask again. what are we, samantha?"

"i still don't know. friends with benefits?"

"sam.."

"sorry. fine. i don't like you as a friend. but more than that."

"no shit." deena said, nudging sam on the arm. "but why?"

"it's complicated. you know how when you're with someone you just feel like everything's gonna be okay?"

"yeah."

"that's how i feel when i'm with you."

things went quiet for a bit but then deena spoke up. "really?"

sam nodded her head as she continued looking down. "i know, it's stupid."

"no, it's not stupid. i understand that you're.. figuring things out."

"but i have." sam finally looked at deena. "this isn't some phase. i know what i feel about you."

deena also looked at sam and giving her a sad smile. "does anyone know? have you told anyone?"

"no. i'm ashamed."

"ashamed?"

sam took a deep breath before speaking. "everyone expects me to be this perfect girl who would end up being with the perfect guy but you know. no one would appreciate me for being myself. i just don't wanna mess things up."

"understandable." deena said, placing her hand on sam's shoulder. "it had to take me quite awhile to come out of the closet."

"why is it taking me longer?"

"it's not always the same for everyone."

"hey i'll uh." sam stood up. "i'll see you tomorrow. i don't really feel well at the moment."

deena stood up, feeling worried. "do i need to help you get home?"

"no, i think i can handle it." sam said with a smile but deena knew something was up.

sam gave deena another quick look before walking away.

deena was confused the whole time. she worried about how maybe she said the wrong thing or that she said something that upset sam.
