I've waited, I've planned, and I'm ready to make a move. I'm proposing to (Y/N) today. We've been dating for almost two years now and I'm ready to ask the question that will hopefully change our lives in a good way. I have the ring, I just need to find a perfect place to ask. But where? That part I've been stuck on for a while now. I don't dare to ask Maddie in case she tells (Y/N) about it. I want it to be surprise. I want (Y/N) to think it's like one of our normal dates.
I'd do it in my Flying Machine but what if I lose the ring? I can't risk that. How can I make this special? I've asked so many people how they proposed but not one has given me ideas. So, I've made it my mission to find somewhere to propose. I took my Flying Machine to look around because it's faster. It wasn't long until I flew over the cornfield where I first met (Y/N). Wait, that's perfect! Nothing is more special than going to the place you and your lover first met. I'll take her there!
I flew back to Emerald City and got ready. That's also when I realized my suit doesn't have pockets. I didn't ask for any when I had it made because I thought I wouldn't need them. Now I can see why women complain about no pockets in their dresses. This is annoying. I can't hold onto the box the whole time because she'll get suspicious. Oh, this is a disaster. But who says I need to keep it in the box? I know where I can up it. I'll keep just the ring in my glove and slip it out when I find the opportunity. That'll have to do.
So, that's what I did before leaving to find (Y/N). She was in Maddie's room playing with her. Oh yeah, I forgot about Maddie. I left quickly to find Tinman. He's the only person I trust with Maddie. He was visiting Emerald City to get oiled and shined up. I found him and asked him to do this favor for me. He thankfully agreed and I took him to the palace.
We arrived at Maddie's room and told her I had to steal (Y/N) for a few hours and that Tinman would look after her. She was okay with it so I took (Y/N) away. We took the carriage to the cornfield and that whole journey she was asking where we were going. I never once told her. When we were within walking distance, I stopped the carriage, blindfolded (Y/N), and took her to the cornfield.
"Can I please see where we're going?" (Y/N) asked as we arrived.
"In a moment. I want this to be a surprise," I said smiling
I took her to the road that she and Dorothy came from and left her there. I went to the pole I was once hung up on. No way am I getting back on there so I just stood at the bottom. I told (Y/N) to take off the blindfold. She did and looked around in shock that she was back here. For fun, I started quoting everything I said that day about which direction to go in. She just giggled.
"Remember this?" I asked smiling and walking out from the field.
"How could I forget? You were the highlight of my day when we first met," (Y/N) said smiling
"Really?"
"Yeah. And I still remember you telling us what you would do if you had a brain."
Oh, that sentence couldn't have been more perfect! I sat by the fence and (Y/N) joined me.
"Do? Why, if I had a brain, I could..." I looked at her, 'I could while away the hours, conferrin' with the flowers, consultin' with the rain. And my head I'd be scratchin' while my thoughts were busy hatchin' if I only had a brain,' I rolled down the hill and (Y/N) followed, 'I'd unravel every riddle for any individ'le, in trouble or in pain.'
'With the thoughts, you'd be thinkin'. You could be another Lincoln If you only had a brain,' (Y/N) said smiling
I got up and continued, 'Oh, I could tell you why the ocean's near the shore,' I spun around for fun, 'I could think of things I never thunk before. And then I'd sit,' I sat down, 'and think some more. I would not be just a nuffin',' I stood up, 'my head all full of stuffin' My heart all full of pain. I would dance and be merry, life would be a ding-a-derry, If I only had a brain.'
I started to dance around while (Y/N) watched with a smile on her face. If anything, I was just acting like I was before I was properly stuffed with straw. All floppy and not great with my balance. Granted, my balance is a lot better now but I do have the odd floppy moment. But I've money noticed that happening when I run. I fell down but got back up again and started spinning until I lost my balance and started flailing backward. But I saved myself and walked back over to (Y/N).
I was just being wobbly with every step I took but it wasn't real. I was just pretending. I did lose my hat in the process of one of my stunts and a crow took it. That wasn't part of the plan. So, I jumped in the field after it and scared some of the crows in there. I found my hat and put it back on before jumping back out. From there, I pretended like I was still getting used to my legs and started to do the splits. It didn't hurt, obviously. I got back up but just fell back down.
But then another thing that didn't go to plan happened. A crow knocked over a pumpkin that hit me, sending me flying. My landing wasn't graceful either because I bounced off the fences before crashing into one, breaking it. Well, I hate to say I have to do that in reverse now because I'm just improvising now and I don't want (Y/N) to see the ring slip out of my glove. So, I did it all again but backward and sneakily slipped the ring into my hand. Time to make the move.
'Gosh, it would be awful pleasin' to reason out the reason, for stuff I can't explain,' I said going over to (Y/N), 'And perhaps I'll deserve ya, and be even worthy 'erv ya if I only had a brain.'
I spun around to land on my knee and showed her the ring. She was giggling until she gasped when she saw the ring.
"(Y/N), you have done so much for me since the day we met. You helped me get a brain, you saved me from burning, you saved me from the Jester, and you've helped me with so much that I could spend years thanking you for. So take this as an eternal thank you and as something I'm doing for you in return. (Y/N) (L/N) of Kansas, will you be my wife and be the new Queen of Oz?" I asked
(Y/N)'s eyes filled with tears of happiness as she said, "Yes! Yes, I will!"
I stood up and put the ring on her finger. I wiped her tears before giving her a kiss. This went perfectly! I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her. This has been a great day.
