So, Maddie stayed true to her word. I didn't see her at graduation and she didn't come back to Emerald City. She still won't talk to me. Tinman and Piro have been giving me updates on how well she's doing and she doesn't even want to talk to me. That was around three years ago now. She would be eighteen now and I've missed out on that special moment of her life. I sent a birthday letter to try my luck but no reply so far. Ozma is probably the only one who has been talkative lately.
Well, I'm not surprised because she's three years old and they're usually speaking at this age. I just sometimes wish we didn't teach her to walk because of the number of times I've managed to lose her because she just wanders off when I'm not looking. I just can't be mad at her because she's still young and so cute. But everything that I've talked about isn't really worrying me at the moment. I heard (Y/N) telling Ozma about a holiday she use to celebrate with Dorothy back in Kansas. It was something called 'Christmas'.
I asked about it more and she explained what it was about and the holiday right after called 'New Years Day'. A day where the people of Kansas and there's of the world celebrate the beginning of the new year. Well, in Oz, it's around the time that Christmas would be happening in Kansas so I've done everything I can to make it as perfect as (Y/N) described for her, Ozma, and everyone in Oz. That's including a Christmas Ball in the Ozdust Ballroom. This will be Ozma's first ball. But not right now. I'm still asleep with (Y/N). Well, I was. Ozma had sneaked in and jumped on our bed to wake us up.
"WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!" Ozma yelled, clearly excited
"Ozma, calm down, please," I said sitting up
"It's Christmas! Present time!"
"After daddy and I have woken up. Meet us downstairs," (Y/N) told Ozma
"Okay," Ozma said smiling, and left the room.
Ozma has grown up so fast. I wanted her to stay a baby forever but everyone grows up and that includes Ozma. After a while, we got up and met Ozma downstairs where the Christmas tree and all the presents were. I think she was trying to organize all our presents but she can't read so it was all mixed up. We helped her organize everyone's presents and then we started to open them. We were all extremely happy with what we got. I did get the girls new dresses for the ball today so they left to get dressed in those.
I just stayed where I was until they got back. When they came back, I knew I was staring at them. They look beautiful. And Ozma looks like a real princess. I snapped out of my staring and complimented the girls. After that, the girls had Christmas dinner since I still can't eat anything but we talked and had a good time. We spent more time together before it was time for the ball. I think Ozma was more excited than me and (Y/N). I just don't want Ozma getting lost in the crowd of people. I'll just improvise.
We went to the Ozdust Ballroom where a lot of people were already inside, including my parents. Ozma said hello to her grandparents and I asked if Maddie came too. Father said that she did but she had disappeared with Tinman almost as soon as they saw each other. Am I missing something with Maddie and Tinman? It feels like I am. I went to where I'm supposed to be with the girls to greet the leaders of Oz. I still have that responsibility.
Once that was eventually over, I finally saw Maddie talking and laughing with Tinman. I wanted to go over but I decided against it. I want to give Maddie time to just approach me on her own. But that wasn't going to happen because Glinda asked if we could talk in private for a moment. (Y/N) encouraged me to go so I did.
"What did you want to speak to me about?" I asked once we were away from the crowd.
"So, you know that Ozma is the next Queen of Oz," Glinda said
"I do know."
"Well, I was wondering, with your and (Y/N)'s permission, if I could teach Ozma magic. So she can rule Oz a little better."
I think you could tell by the look on my face that I didn't want that.
"We can wait until she's matured to at least ten years old. It doesn't have to be straight away," Glinda said
"Ozma doesn't need magic to rule Oz, Glinda. And it's Ozma's choice, not ours. When she's old enough to understand, you can ask her again. Until then, I'll think about it too because she's bound to ask my permission to take lessons," I said
"I understand."
"Now, if you don't mind, I have to get back to the ball and see if my angry sister wants to talk to me after three years."
I went back to the ball. I saw Ozma dancing in the ballroom with some children her age as I went back to (Y/N). I told her about Glinda's offer and (Y/N) seemed to like the idea. I obviously asked why she agreed so quickly and she explained that she would tell Ozma about the magic she's seen and read about and Ozma seemed so interested in it. I'm still going to think about it like I told Glinda but I'm not liking the idea at this very moment.
As the ball, went on, Maddie never came over to talk. I shouldn't be so surprised. She hates me. The ball would eventually end and we were ready to leave when we were stopped by Maddie. She apologized for how she acted and asked for forgiveness. I forgave her and said that she could have her old room back if she wanted. She was happy with that offer.
We shared a much-needed hug and, on the way back, I introduced her to Ozma as this was their first time meeting each other. They started to get along great days after Maddie moved back into the palace. Much like with her parents, Ozma got along very well with her Aunt Maddie. I'm just happy that we've forgotten about the past and made up. I missed my sister.
(A/N: MERRY EARLY CHRISTMAS!)
