This story is loosely based on the song House of Wolves by My Chemical Romance. The general idea is.
This story will have a sort of negative outlook on Christianity, so before you get mad at me, know that I am a Christian writing this. I'm just acknowledging that Christianity isn't a perfect religion and isn't always practiced with good intent.
It's also incredibly long, like, probably 3x longer than anything I've posted here, so I hope it's not too hard to read.
TW: implied homophobia, mentions of self-hate and internalized homophobia, strong language

This building was a second home to Felix. He'd been attending the services at this church since he was born. He was baptized here as a baby. Everyone at the church knew him as his father was the priest. They all loved him, he being a sweetheart that would never hurt anyone intentionally.
But, he had a secret. One that no one but one person knew about. Not even his parents knew. And he intended on keeping it that way for as long as he could.
The secret was that he was gay. He knew his parents would've died if they found out. Everyone in the church would turn on him. He wouldn't be the good boy of the church to anyone anymore.
Except for Chan.
Chan was one of the young workers at the church. He worked as a lector and torchbearer during masses. He also held the same secret, and Felix was the only one to know. They confided in each other after Chan had spent the night at Felix's house and noticed all the tiny pride details in his room. None of them were big enough for his parents to notice, but there was a small rainbow flag pin sitting underneath his desktop, a small rainbow beaded bracelet on his dresser. Things like that.
The only reason Felix didn't hide these things from Chan when he came over was that they had talked about their own beliefs about their religion a while before. What Chan said he believed in made Felix feel safe around him, and thus, he allowed Chan to know about this secret side of him.
That was the night that Chan confessed to Felix about himself. It was a nice moment the two of them had after that, as they embraced each other in hugs, all their emotions pouring into it. That night was filled with tears, laughter, and lots of smiles.
They grew closer after that night, now having something to bond over. They had begun hanging out regularly, and Felix's parents were glad that he finally made friends with someone at the church. Despite him being there for so long, there was no one he could confide in and get close with, but now he had Chan.
A few weeks later, Chan confessed to Felix about his feelings for the younger. During those few weeks, he was battling himself over his feelings. Even though he knew his sexuality, he still wasn't completely comfortable with it. It was a constant battle, being surrounded by his very strict Catholic family.
He was constantly being told that it was wrong and unnatural. His parents would often cross the line with comments they made about the idea of someone they knew being gay. For this reason, he made sure no one knew of his true identity.
And also why he had to battle himself over the mere idea of liking Felix romantically. He was also hard on himself, constantly telling himself that Felix had it worse, his father being the priest at the church. He had a reputation to uphold. Chan was just a member of the church that could come and go. Felix was stuck for however long his father decided to stay with the church.
He often would bully himself to the point that he'd lay in bed, screaming into his pillow, wondering why he was such a fuck up. Why did he have to be this way? Why couldn't he be normal? He was a disgusting sinner that deserved to rot in hell for eternity. That's what he deserved and what he was going to get on Judgment Day.
