This story is not based on any song but actually based on a folk tale. This story is based on the story of a strigoi. For reference, a strigoi is like a vampire, but originated in Croatia and is (from my knowledge) the oldest "vampire" monster there is.

This being said, this story contains A LOT of death and blood. This isn't a romantic "I'm in love with a vampire" story. It's gory and horrific. Personally, I prefer these kinds of stories that don't glamorize vampires and that actually show how terrifying they are because vampires are fucking scary, dude.

Also, I wrote this story for my creative writing class a few semesters ago and it featured a straight couple before, so if there's any hers, shes, wifes, or anything like that, I apologize, I tried to change as many as I could find.

Death is a tragic thing that everyone will experience at some point in their life. How you handle it is a different question. You could move on quickly and pretend that nothing happened, or you may dwell in your house, lonely and depressed. For some, that is the best option.

When Chan's husband, Hyunjin, died, he did the latter. He wasn't able to leave his house. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't. The only time he went outside was when he had forced himself to attend Hyunjin's funeral. After that, no one saw him. They didn't need to, his friends knew he was grieving, and they tried to give him the time and space he needed.

You may be wondering how Hyunjin died. The two of them were going home from a group lunch with their friends, having not been able to see each other in a long while. They were all laughing and having a good time inside the restaurant, but as soon as the couple got into their car, they started fighting. Hyunjin started yelling about how the waiter serving them was always side-eyeing Chan and casually flirting with him. Chan tried to reason with him and tell him that nothing was going on, that he was just a friendly man who was making conversation with the group. Chan was one of those people that would go to the same restaurant at the same time every day. He would sit at the same table and order the same food and drink, so Felix, the waiter, always seemed to be his server, and over time, they became friends.

They continued arguing about it as Chan kept driving. While trying to convince his husband that he was faithful, he briefly stopped paying attention to the road and angrily glared at Hyunjin. He accidentally ran a red light and watched in horror as the oncoming car made impact in the intersection, crushing the passenger side door in and killing his Hyunjin instantly, leaving him barely harmed.

He hated himself for it every day. There wasn't a day that went by that he wasn't asking for forgiveness from Hyunjin. He was the one driving; he was the one who stopped paying attention; he was the one who was at fault. Hyunjin was dead because of him. And now, every time he looked out the window and saw cars passing on his street, he would think of him, his heart breaking more and more.

He was the man Chan loved most in the world. He was the one who would make him smile and laugh, the one who showed him love even when he didn't want to. He was always there for him when he needed it, even if he didn't ask. If Chan got sick, Hyunjin would take care of all of his work and make sure he stayed in bed until he felt better. He made sure that he would stay on track when he set a goal until he accomplished it. But now, all of that was gone. In the blink of an eye, the love of his life was whisked away. All because of a stupid fight.

Everyone in this small town was close, and everyone seemingly knew each other. They loved to gossip with each other, and it would spread like wildfire. Before the end of the day, everyone in town had heard whatever the rumors were about. What caught their attention now was a strange knocking that some had been hearing in the middle of the night. They would ask each other about it, trying to determine whether it was just them hearing it or not.
