Part 2: Confusion

When I woke up the next morning he was no longer home, it was almost like he never was home. The apartment felt empty as it did when I arrived yesterday. I looked over to the other side of the bed to only see emptiness next to me. I grabbed my phone to see a text.

I'm in town if you have nothing to do :)

The text caught me by surprise at first, I had no idea who it was from. Then I realized that it was from my bestfriend Zoey who has been with her parents in her hometown for over a month now.

How about grabbing a coffee? 11.00 am ?

Sounds like a plan :)

We met up at a local cafe that we love. The owner of the cafe is this cute old couple and they are just too sweet. We both ordered coffee and Zoey ordered a croissant, I wasn't hungry for something so a coffee was enough.

-"I have missed you so much. How are your parents by the way?"

-"Missed you too, so much. They are doing great. It was fun to meet them again. Is so common when you become an adult that you just completely forget your parents cause you're so busy with your own life." She said as she took a sip of her black coffee.

-"That is lovely to hear. Yeah that could happen, like I don't know when I met my parents last time."

-"Enough about me. How is it with you and Marcus? I know it has not been the best."

-"Um, it's weird right now. I suspect that he is cheating on me. He is working late all the time and comes home kinda drunk. He just acts strange now and has been for the past months."

-"Huh, that is weird." She said with a confused face as she put down her coffee cup on the table.

-"But I don't know for sure though. How can I be sure? It's not fair to him that im mad over something i don't even know if it's true or not."

-"Asking maybe will just trigger him, you know how sensitive boys can be. But It would be so suspicious if he got mad if you would ask him about it." She said and took a bit out of her croissant.

-"These thoughts are killing me. I want us to just work. How long do I have to go until it gets better."

-"I'm sorry but if he actually is cheating on you, he would never say it. Then it is up to you to figure it out."

-"That is so fucked up. He would just be mad if I asked him, even if he cheated or not. He is so easy to drive insane."

-"You have to bring it up somehow. You can't live like this Dol. You deserve someone who doesn't make you second guess yourself."

-"Yeah I know, I weirdly still love him. Apparently he is gonna do something tonight to make up for everything. For every night that he had to work late."

-"What could that possibly be?"

-I" have no idea, but what I do know is that it will not make up for everything. Nothing can. Maybe if he would change magically, Is there something I could do?"

-"Honey, don't even try to "fix" him. It would only hurt you."

-"I just want it to work, I don't know what to do."

-"You have to do something."

Then I looked down to the table in front of me and realized I had ordered coffee and I took a sip of it but the coffee was cold and bitter like my emotions. I was so invested in our conversions that I forgot about it. Talking to Zoey about everything made things not easier.

-"Wait, what time is it?"

-"Um.. 4:34 pm. Why do you ask?"

-"I have to be home at 5 pm. He had fixed something for me, remember?"

-"Yeah, I do. But you have to ask him or something."

-"I know. I will take care of it soon."

-"Dol, remember that you deserve so much better than this."

I smiled back at her and then left the cafe.
