It was now just a few days away from his birthday. He texted me and asked if I wanted to go on a date with him on his birthday. I had thought about what to give him for his birthday. It wasn't an even number he was turning but still, I wanted it to be something special. I ran through every store in town, but nothing seemed right. Although there were this pair of sunglasses that looked cool, I don't know if he would have liked them. I bought them just in case I didn't find anything else. They were round with yellow glass in them, kind of like John Lennon's iconic glasses. I was so excited for our date, by asking me out meant he wanted us to be something more than friends. He picked me up at 6pm and took me to one of the most fanciest restaurants in town.
-"You look stunning, Dol" He said as he slowly looked up and down on me when I opened the door to his car.
-"You too." I blushed uncontrollably.
The ride to the restaurant was about 10 min. He put on the radio, and they played Everything You've Come To Expect. It made him blush a little, hearing his and Miles' song on the radio.
-"This is a really fancy place you are taking me to, it's not my birthday today. It's yours." I said when we walked in. It felt weird that I was there because there were only really rich people who could afford a dinner at this place. It felt like I didn't fit in there.
-"You deserve this." He said and wrapped his arm around my waist and kissed me on my cheek.
-"At table 5" Said a waitress with a smile and walked us to the table.
-"What do you like? You can get anything you want."
-"Um, I don't really know. What are you going to have?"
-"I don't know yet, I like the pastas they have here."
-"I want pasta then. I trust your judgment." I gave him a smirk.
-"What do you want to drink? Champagne, rosé, white or red wine?"
-"Um, wow so many options but rosé is fine." Then he ordered food and rosé for me. Himself took a burger and a coke, since he is driving.
At first the date felt awkward since I know more things about him than he knows about me. So then it would be more him asking questions to me like an interview.
-"This was good pasta." I said awkwardly.
-"Tell me something about you, I have realized I don't know you that well." He said because he probably noticed that I was feeling awkward.
-"Um, I don't know what to say about me." I slightly laughed, no one has ever asked me that.
-"For example, when is your birthday then?"
-"11th October, I turned 29 last year."
-"Wow, a big number this year then. 30"
And then we talked about so many things during that date. There was always something to talk about. It felt so unbelievable that he had asked me out. I wanted to spend all of my waking hours with him.
-"Thank you for a good night. I loved the date, it was really lovely."
-"Oh but it's not over yet, Alex. We are going home to my place."
-"So you can get your birthday gift." I whispered in his ear. My comment sent shivers down his spine. The alcohol gave me slightly more confidence.
-"Um, okay. Yeah, sure sure." He didn't really know what to say. He swallowed his lump in his throat and walked to his car with me. One of his arms around my waist.
When we entered my apartment I gave him the box with the glasses.
-"Happy birthday."
-"Wow, thank you so much." He shined up as he saw the glasses.
