Five days of research. Five days of intensive research in the Nevada. They were getting closer everyday. Eric was crying in silence in the night when Mary was sleeping. He wanted to look strong for her so she wouldn't loose hope.
Five days Sebastian didn't open his phone. He only got one notification and he guessed right away it was Joseph or his foster parents.
On Layla's side, they tried to let her awake, but it was difficult. The hypothermia took all over her body. She didn't have any shivers anymore. No heat was producing in her body and she was mostly unconscious all day long.
She forgot where her home was. Yes, at this point. She was scared, but she wasn't able to show it. Her heartbeat was at one beat per ten seconds. It was extremely slow. It was a miracle she wasn't dead yet.
Because she wasn't able to move due to the hypothermia, they unchained her to put her in the wood box. With the dead bugs. Disgusting. But she didn't take conscience about it.
Joseph was anxious too. He knew Sebastian was getting really close to them. He listened to the news every hour. They were looking in the forest where he sneaked Layla in. At anytime they could find their place so he packed everything and put gas everywhere. He was about to burn the place right before they could leave.
"Be fast. We're moving."
"What about the girl?" Danita asked.
"She'll burn with the forest. Come on, move!"
They packed everything they needed to and start to burn the trees. It was smelling bad the old food was in the fire too... everything was in it, but they didn't think that the black smoke got high in the sky and it made people go look there. He didn't think smart enough when he got the idea. He made them found Layla faster.
The firefighters drove as fast as they could and stopped the fire. It took two hours to finish it, but it was worth it. With the line Joseph made with the gas, it drove them to the recreational car and obviously Layla not far from it.
She was now on the rest of the grass, sleeping. They quickly recovered her with the coats and the blankets they had. She was extremely cold to the touch. Her lips, fingers and toes were purple, almost dark purple.
"Call her husband. He's looking for her at ten miles away I think."
"Give me two secs." He took the phone and called Sebastian right away. "Mister, we found your wife. We are at..." he was calculating "five miles from you. Direction South-West." The guy hung up.
"She's in hypothermia. We need to bring her at the hospital as fast as we can or she will die. I don't even understand how she survived." The second helper said.
"We need to call an ambulance."
At the same time he said that, his coworker was already in the call with the hospital. They needed to be fast or Sebastian will take care of it. And it wouldn't be good for the rescue team.
It took him less than it would usually take to get there, but he stopped himself when he saw her. Walking gently to be sure he wouldn't scare her, he looked at her. Every single detail hurt his heart. All the cuts, bruises... it was atrocious to look. He let a couple of tears running down on his cheeks. How was that imaginable? Why would someone hurt an angel like they did to her?
"Let me handle it from here, please." He gently ordered to them.
He replaced her hair behind her ear and looked again at her face. She was still beautiful. The cutest sweetheart on earth.
After three weeks of research and anxiety, he finally found her alive. Not conscious, but alive. It was all it matter. He found her and he could call Mary and Joseph who stayed close to the hotel to look for her. They didn't have enough strength to walk in the middle of the forest so they decided to stick close of where they were sleeping.
"Mister Stan, the ambulance is coming for your wife. Please, let them take her."
"She-she's not my wife." He mumbled. "I'll go with them! They need informations about her." He spoke clearly and coldly.
"Eh, sure. Just be sure she's getting warmer. It's important."
"Noted. Thanks bud." Sebastian could be cold, but he was a cinnamon roll in his heart. He just stopped showing it because of Danita and Frank. They messed up his life after his mom passed away.
He didn't stop to say sorry in her ear. That it was his fault if they did that to her... messing up her life like if it was her turn. They broke her and it would last forever. He could never forgive himself.
"Sir, I will ask you to let us handle this now."
He looked at them with a dead stare before he let her go in other hands. They put so many things on her that she looked like a robot who was recharging its pile. They put a bag of solute, the heartbeat machine (a Holter monitor) and many other things that he didn't know the names. She looked dead. He looked at them another time before he started to speak.
"Okay... her name is Layla Hardin. She was born on July 15th, 1995. She's a AB negative. She already had a surgery for her broken ribs maybe a month ago. I'm not sure."
"Thanks. Now, I really need that you let us bring her to the hospital. You can follow us with your car, but you're not allowed to be inside. I'm sorry." And the paramedics closed the door.
Why he couldn't with them? Was it because they weren't related? He couldn't answered and he didn't want to know anyway.
Sebastian drove as fast as the ambulance drove and went to the closest hospital. An it was only when she was in good hands he called her grandparents. He made sure she had doctors for her before he called them.
The happiness in their voice made him feel relieved. Everyone will have their doll, their little blossom and their little girl. She would be back home fast.
Finally be in her things and feel alive, better and be at home. Her home, her town, her old life.
He only wished she would forgive him even if in the deep side on himself he didn't want her to. If she ever forgave him, he would forgive himself after. And if it was only if she did it. He would totally understand if she didn't forgive him. It was mostly his fault. He left her alone at the bar because he needed to took an important paper on his desk.
Yeah... important. It wasn't important as she was for him. He should've brought her with him instead of letting her by her own at the bar with a bartender who didn't care about anyone except money.
He wished... he wished to turn back time.
