Denied Me and Betrayed Me

Erik walks out from behind a statue on the roof and walks over to the rose Christine dropped on the roof. Kneeling down in the cold snow, Erik picks the rose up and looks at it. "Why would Christine betray me," Erik thinks. "She said she would never marry."

Erik feels betrayed and denied. That insolent boy stole his one of his two reasons to live. His Christine. And Christine had his other reason to live. His music. Erik had nothing now. "I gave you my music," Erik sings sadly. "Made your song take wind. And now how you've repaid me. Denied me and betrayed me. He was bound to love you when he heard you sing."

Erik feels tears begin to fall down his face. "Christine," he whispers. Bringing the rose to his nose, Erik smells the sweet scents of the rose. As the tears fall, Erik hears Raoul and Christine singing together. He can't believe it; they're rubbing it in his face!

Rage begins to boil inside of Erik. His hand begins to crush the rose, petals falling from his closed fist. Releasing the flower, Erik runs to dark gray statue and begins to climb it. "You will curse the day you did not do," Erik sings angrily,"all that the Phantom asked of you!"

Climbing down, Erik rushes to where the chandelier chain is. If he cuts the chain, the chandelier will fall which is exactly what he wants to do. While Erik quickly cuts the chain, the performance finishes and the cast is heading out for the finial bow.

The chain snaps and the chandelier begins to fall. Erik sees Christine on stage; he doesn't want the star of his future opera getting hurt. "No," Erik screams as the chandelier falls and shatters. The lights flicker out, leaving the audience in darkness.
