Christine puts the finishing touches of her make up on. She looks at her reflection in the mirror and she is amazed. Christine had put on white eye shadow, mascara, a light blush, and a light pink lipstick making her look older and beautiful. Her curly brown hair is pulled into a bun, with a few loose curls to the side, with a small silver crown on top of her head. The dress she's wearing is white with sparkles all over and the sleeves have small flower designs made with white lace. A thin silver chain around her neck has her engagement ring on it. Christine decided to wear the ring on a necklace because if it was on her finger everyone would know she's engaged; and Christine doesn't want people to know she engaged, especially the phantom.
Just as she finishes, Christine hears a knock on her dressing room door. "That must be Raoul," Christine says, happily. Raoul is bringing Christine to the masquerade the opera house is holding, celebrating the new chandelier. Christine walks over to the door and opens it to reveal Raoul.
Raoul is dressed in a black and gold striped suit with gold buttons. A black and gold striped cape flows out from behind him, hiding his sword from view. His hair is pulled back into a ponytail with a black ribbon tied into a bow.
Raoul looks at Christine and his jaw drops. Then offering her his arm, he says,"You look gorgeous tonight, Christine."
Blushing, Christine takes Raoul's offered arm. "And you look very handsome tonight, Raoul," Christine says. The smiling couple then heads towards the main hall where the ball is taking place.
Once there, Christine takes in the sight. Dresses and suits of every color imaginable are all around the room. Smells of savory and sweet foods drifts from the tables next to the walls. People's voices mingle with the orchestrs's music, making the place seem more alive. Soon people soon begin to surround Raoul and Christine, asking questions about Christine's singing and Raoul's career.
Christine eventually gets tired of questions and tells Raoul that she's going to go talk to Meg. Raoul nods his head, unaware of Christine's presence. Christine walks away, feeling slightly hurt. As Christine is trying to fing Meg, she sees a flash of red dissapper behind a corner. Curiosity getting the better of her, Christine begins to walk towards the corner.
Peaking around the corner, Christine gasps, seeing the costume in front of her. The gasp causes the figure to turn revealing the wahole outfit. The outfit is a red suit with a huge red cape draping from behind. The suit is decorated with gold swirls and gold branch designs and gold buttons sown the fronnt. The man's face is covered with a white mask that looks like the front of a human skull. The man is tense once he sees Christine because she recognizes who he is.
Before Christine can get away, Erik grabs her arm and pulls her toward a door that leads into the costume closet. Once the two are inside, Christine looks up at Erik. "Why are you here," Christine asks.
"I was going to give the managers my opera," Erik says, pulling out a think brown leather book with a thin piece of black rope tied around it. "I finished it and it's time for it to be performed."
Christine nods her head. "Are you here alone or are you here with your," Erik takes a deep breath before continuing,"fiance," Erik asks. Christine notices saddness in Erik's voice.
"Yes, I came with Raoul, but he is too occupied talking with people to dance with me,"Christine says with a sigh.
Erik hears a slow song begin to play and he gets an idea. "Well," Erik says,"Miss Daee, will you do me the honor of dancing with me?' After asking, Erik offers Christine his hand.
Christine freezes. Should she dance with him or not? "One dance won't hurt." Christine thinks. Taking his hand, the two begin to waltz to the song. The two move with perfect rythmn to the song, surprising Christine. "I didn't know you could dance," Christine says, looking up at Erik.
Smiling, Erik says,"I can do alot if things that you don't know about."
Christine smiles. As the song goes on, she feels herself getting closer to Erik and vice versa. Their bodies were pressed together and their faces were inches apart. Feeling a rush of courage,Christine closes the distance between them.
Erik was surprised at first, but quickly relaxed and kissed her back. The kiss was full of love and passion. It was unlike anything the two had ever experienced. When Chrsitine had kissed Raoul on the roof, it didn't feel anything like when she kissed Erik. And Erik had never felt this much love in his life; no one had ever hugged him let alone kissed him.
When the two pulled apart, they gazed into each other's eyes. Everything became clear to Christine in that moment; she is supposed to be engaged to Erik ,not Raoul. Christine reaches behind her neck and takes her necklace off, dropping it onto the floor. Erik looks at Christine confused.
"Why did you do that," Erik asks confused.
"Because I made a mistake getting engaged to Raoul," Christine says. "I was blind to realize that I'm in love with you. I love you, Erik."
Erik smiles,"I have always loved you, Christine. You have no idea how happy I am to know that you love me back."
Christine wraps her arms around Erik's torso, soon feeling his strong protective ones wrap around her.
