(Let's go third person for a change 😊)

The phone vibrated in Lily's hand as she debated whether to answer or not. She felt so stupid to even joke negatively about her beloved boyfriend working on her birthday - something she had been aware of since before they even met properly. She just hoped Laura, or Louis hadn't upset him.
"Hello?" Her voice croaked down the phone as she answered.
"Oh thank god you answered, Laura said you were upset with me? Talk to me, Angel," his voice sighed down the other end of the line and immediately, lily felt nothing but guilt and butterflies.
"I knew she'd said something! Honestly marty, I'm not upset at you at all! I felt abit sad earlier that I won't get to see you next week as it's my birthday on Friday, but I'm in no way upset at you, your work is priority and I'd never dream of getting in the way of that," Lily rambled as though she had rehearsed in her head as her phone had been ringing, perhaps because she had.
"I'm so sorry, Lils. Honestly I'd much rather be with you, but I promise you as soon as I'm home I'll make it up to you. Plus we can still FaceTime, right?" He pleaded down the phone. In Lily's head, she could see his vibrant kind eyes looking straight into hers with an innocent smile that told her he meant what he said. She smiled.
"Of course we can,"
"I'm so glad you're not upset at me. I was worried! But now I can get to sleep happily, goodnight Lily," Martin yawned down the phone. It was now the early hours, after all.
"Goodnight, Marty," Lily blushed at her words as she ended the call, contently flopping into her bed in her cosiest cream joggers, Martins black hoody, which she relished for the smell of his masculine yet sweet scent, and a messy bun. With an air of warmth, Lily smiled, closing her tired brown eyes.

As Martin lay in bed that night, he couldn't rest. His apartment was on the top floor of a beautiful complex, and his bedroom wall was a purely large window overlooking the glowing lights of the currently sodden city. He had not yet closed his curtains, he simply sat against his pillow in darkness letting the lights outside focus his gaze. Taking a deep breath, he knew he must be able to do something to relieve Lily's worries and make her birthday as special as he felt she deserved. Quickly, he picked up his phone and began texting, his messy bed head still resting against the pillow.

message to : Louis

brother I need your help

What's up man?

im worried, it's lilys birthday next week and she told me not to worry and that she'd FaceTime me and stuff while I'm touring but we've been together not long and it's her 21st it's special, how can I still make it special for her?

Right firstly bro, she's been talking to Nadia about this too and honestly she's ok, she's not upset or annoyed and she understands your work is important so don't stress. Why don't you make a surprise for her or something? Leave her a cute present or card for her to find on the day so she feels like she's still with you?

OMG you've just given me a great idea
i knew you would help. Thanks lou

MARTIJN

His turquoise grey eyes had relished beneath his eyelids in relief as he knew what to do. With no idea how to do it, he knew he would do it, for Lily in his eyes deserved nothing less.
