Mitch ran off as fast as he could. Greed... I knew he was up to no good! Jerome had gone missing without him even noticing. He was angry at himself for not realizing it sooner.
"They shouldn't be that far away."
He found them. Mitch came to a slow pace as he got near. Greed was standing there, arms folded. Mitch's eyes went to the ground, widening when he saw Jerome's body there behind the Sin.
"J-Jerome..." Mitch managed to say despite his shock. Jerome was in a pool of blood, unmoving. "You... How could—"
"He's still alive." Greed cuts him off.
Mitch looked at the Sin. "What...?"
"He's alive." Greed repeated. "However, he will bleed out and die if he stays like that." He cast Mitch a cold glare. "I think you know what you have to do."
Mitch pulled out the dagger that he held onto from the time Greed let him go free. "Why did you go after Jerome?" He asked. "Shouldn't you come after me?!"
Greed didn't answer. He just stands in the same spot, guarding Jerome's body.
Mitch gritted his teeth as he ran toward. If anything, Greed would be like Lust. He just needs to find the weak spot.
Lust's symbol was on the left hand... The same hand that Jerome has his symbol of Virtue on. So this means... Mitch's eyes looked down to Greed's right hand. Virtues and Sins must have matching spots where their unique symbols are.
As Mitch pulled his arm back to stab Greed's hand, the scarf around the Sin's neck came to life. His eyes widened as he tried to dodge it but he was too slow. Mitch was sent flying before he hit the ground hard.
He winced, grabbing hold of his left shoulder. It has hit the ground first. Mitch stood back up and this time he carefully made his way over to Greed.
Greed doesn't move, watching Mitch with careful eyes.
As Mitch gets closer, the scarf starts moving. It formed three claws this time, hovering near Greed's shoulders. It extended itself, going towards Mitch.
Here it comes!
Mitch quickly dodges right and the scarf misses him just by a few inches.
Yes!
Mitch quickly propels himself forward but Greed still doesn't move. Mitch's eyes widened as he looked back, seeing the scarf coming back towards him. He was under the impression that it could only extend out straight and then retract back.
The claws swiped across Mitch's chest, leaving three bloody lines. Fortunately, it doesn't seem deep but it still stung. Mitch gritted his teeth as he took the dagger and went down on the scarf, expecting it to cut through.
The scarf was hard. "Wh-what is that thing..?!" Mitch exclaimed as the blade slid off of it when it went back to Greed.
"Is that all you've got, Charity?" Greed asked him. "I wonder what's wrong... Maybe I should raise the stakes here." The Sin pulled out a knife, flung it back at Jerome's body. It nearly struck Jerome, landing next to his head.
"What do you think you're doing?!" Mitch exclaimed.
"As long as I'm standing here, I'll throw a knife at his body." Greed pulls out another knife. "I'm not looking when I'm throwing it so it could possibly be fatal." His eyes flash gold as he plays with the knife in his hand. "So hurry, Charity... You wouldn't want him to die, right?"
Mitch clenches his fists, tightening his grip on his dagger. It was obvious Greed wanted something from him but there isn't any time to idle on that. Jerome was bleeding out right before him.
He took a step forward and the scarf suddenly lunged at him without warning. Mitch barely dodged, jumping to the right. He saw it go right by his face. He's really trying to kill me....! If he had been even a millisecond too late, it would have gone for his head or throat.
Mitch ducked down to avoid the second attack but it turned sharply, going after him again. He noticed Greed, aiming the knife at Jerome. He saw it stuck Jerome's right shoulder. Seeing this had distracted Mitch for a moment, allowing the scarf's claws to graze his back.
The scarf continued to bend, turning corners to reach him. I can't reach Jerome like this...! Mitch turned towards Greed, seeing that he had pulled out another knife. He decided to go for it, weaving his way towards Greed. He feels the numerous cuts from the scarf on his body as he comes closer.
Mitch finally got up close to Greed. As he raises his dagger, Greed suddenly lifts up his leg and kicks him right in the gut. All the air escaped him as he gasped out. He stumbles back, holding his stomach. The scarf swerved towards him and Mitch couldn't get out of the way in time. It cut through his left arm and he let out a cry of pain.
Mitch fights back the tears as he bit his lips. Blood ran down his left arm, dripping down to the ground. The next moment he knew, he was on the ground.
I can't... breathe...
He looked up to see all the distance he had made had been reset. He was back where he started.
It hurts...
He can see Greed turn away and face Jerome. The scarf extended out, hovering above Jerome.
Jerome... I have to... get up...!
Mitch gritted his teeth as he forces himself to get up. It was no good, he wouldn't be able to reach them in time. Even though he knows that he still dashed towards them.
"St-stop..." Mitch reached his hand out in desperation. "Stop... stop it!"
Mitch's eyes widened as something was glowing purple in front of him. It was the orb, glowing bright purple. It suddenly dissipated, materializing into another form.
It was a bow. On both of the limbs, it has a sharp blade. On either side of the grip were silver metal with symbols engraved into it. The metal extends outward, forming a protective space for the grip. The grip itself is a long metal pole. The entire bow glows purple faintly.
"Artifact... Illumina..." Mitch muttered the name of his Artifact, unconsciously.
All the pain and worries suddenly vanished as he grabbed the grip of the bow with his left hand. This weapon was made for him.
Without a second thought, he pull the invisible drawstrings with his right hand. A glowing line started forming at the end of his hand before fully forming into an arrow. It was an arrow imbued with purple energy.
Mitch releases the drawstring and the arrow goes flying straight towards Greed.
Greed's eyes widened as he senses something coming towards him. The arrow shot through his chest, disappearing in an instant it went through his body. Greed coughed out blood as he grabbed his bloody chest.
He looked up at Mitch, seeing his expression had changed entirely. The Sin corners quirked up to a deranged smile. His eyes glowed golden as he let out a laugh despite the seemingly fatal wound.
"You... you finally awakened your Artifact, now we can get started."
