48: Forgive

As soon as Envy caught up to Jason, his eyes widened in panic as he saw Jason wasn't moving from his spot. He hurriedly checked up on him, turning Jason around to face him. The Virtue's eyes were dull and staring off into nothing.

"No..." Envy muttered. "Superbia... he must have invaded his mind."

Although Jason's body is present in front of him, Envy knows that Jason's state of mind is not. It is one of Superbia's abilities. He can enter people's minds, creating a whole other plane where only him and the one he invaded can interact.

There was no way Envy can help Jason now. He would have to break free on his own.

"Kindness... Can you hear me?" Envy asked. "Kindness...?"

There was no response from him.

"Kindness!" Envy said, increasing his volume, getting frustrated as every second passed. Blood suddenly came down from Jason's face, coming from a cut on his cheek.

Envy's heart dropped. "Superbia.... he... he can't be..."

"Kindness.. Kindness!" He grabs Jason's shoulders. "You have to wake up. Wake up and get out of there!"

Envy watched as Jason's cheeks slowly split apart and there was nothing he could do about it. The next moment his body jerked violently, causing him to fall to the ground due to the sucden movement.

Envy caught him before he could hit the ground, lowering Jason to the ground slowly. He laid him out on the ground as he saw that Jason's shirt fabric started to stain red.

He grabs the shirt and pulls it up to see three long scratch marks on Jason's chest.

"Superbia... what.. what are you doing?!" Envy cried out. "He's just a human, he'll bleed out!"

As if Superbia had heard him, another scratch appeared on the chest.

The blood by now has stained the ground where Jason lay. "Stop... stop it Superbia..." Envy said in a frightened tone. "You'll kill him..."

Envy couldn't bear to watch as Jason's body continuously get new wounds and bleed profusely.

I... I can't do anything... Envy thought in despair. He's... he's going to die... This is all my fault...

Regret filled him as he squeezed his eyes shut, pulling Jason's body into his arms. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry..." Envy whispered as he cradled Jason's head and upper body. "I... I just wanted to protect you and now..."

Envy felt something touch his shoulder followed by a rough cough. He opens his eyes and finds Jason looking up at him. Although he's losing a lot of blood, he managed to form a shaky smile at Envy. "You're... not that bad of a person..."

"You.. you woke up..." Envy said slowly. "Kindness..."

Jason's face suddenly changed into terror. "Envy.... Wa-watch out!"

Before he could react, Envy felt a very sharp pain in his chest. He glanced back to catch a glimpse of his own shadow stabbing him one of its hand.

Jason watched in horror as the shadow moved, taking hold of Envy's head and slamming him into the ground. "Ugh...!" Envy clenched, taking the impact.

The shadow started to transform, taking the shadow form of Pride. "I didn't think that Virtue would be able to wake up..."

"En... Envy..." Jason called out weakly.

"Superbia.. get off of me.." Envy growled. He struggled to muster the strength to get up.

"Invidia.. I suggest you don't move.. I've made sure I didn't damage your heart but you should have taken some damage there."
