Chapter 17: BEFORE THE MISSION

The scene shows Oswald, Eren, Armin, and Jean at a farm where Historia was chasing after some kids. It had been two months since Historia was crowned queen, and many changes have gone in around the walls.

Jean: (jokingly) nice palace.

Armin: yeah, she's not exactly regal.

Jean: we'll it's only been two months since she was crowned, but it seems like she'd rather run an orphanage than a kingdom.

Armin: have you heard the new name people came up for her? They call her "The Cattle Farming Goddess." They think it's a term of endearment.

Zen Aku: more like a lack of faith that we'll actually survive this shit and that she's helping raise more food for the titans.

Jean: it's hardly the first time she's been called a goddess. (Turns to Eren with a cheeky smile) you know if this keeps up, I bet everyone will forget about the chump that plugged up the wall in Trost.

Eren: (unphased) this is part of why Historia agreed to become queen in the first place. So she could do this.

Armin: do...what?

Eren: she went from the underground to the edge of the walls and saved all the orphans and needy she could find. She even got the Captain into it since he grew up in the underground. When she sees someone crying, and saying no one needs them, she has to prove them wrong. She told me that she needs them to be okay.

Historia: (approaches them) slacking off again?

Guys: uh...

Historia: (places hands on hips) it's getting dark you know.

A short while later, they were helping move supplies to the farm. While the others were ahead, Oswald and Historia were walking side by side.

Historia: so I've heard you and Eren are making progress with the hardening experiments.

Oswald: yeah. Hange's having us help make something that'll help the Garrison defend the walls. But we have to hurry before they attack again.

Historia: what will you do if you have to face Reiner and Bertholdt again?

Oswald: fight them. Zen Aku never trusted them, and I understand why. If it comes to it, I'll kill both of them.

Historia: I'm kinda curious, what's it like?

Oswald: what is?

Historia: Zen Aku. What's it like to have another person in your head and when you transform?

Oswald: I guess it's almost like dreaming when we change. When Zen Aku's out, I can still see and hear things, but have little control on our movements. And, in the Titan form itself, it's like we're controlling a cart at the same time. We both have a hand on the rope, and do the same action.

Historia: I see. (Looks out at the farm) I hope we'll get answers soon. We've come so far and lost so many. I'd hate to think it'd end where it was all for nothing.

Oswald: it won't be. Once the wall's sealed again, we'll find the cellar and learn what we need to know.

Historia: (looks down to him) but what about you?

Oswald: me?

Historia: you've talked about it before. You want to go back to where the scouts first found you. Why do you want to?

Oswald: (looks down a bit) I don't.

Historia: huh?

Oswald: I don't want to go back. Even after everything that happened, I'm still scared of that place and for what happened to me. (Remembers the previous flashbacks) but whether or not I want to, it's the only lead I have to know more about me. About why I'm like this, why they took me, and where I came from.
